- When Congress approved $300 million to arm Ukraine late last week, it marked the first time lawmakers have approved new funding for Kiev's war effort in more than a year.

- There's just one problem: The money has already run out.

- The money earmarked to help Ukraine was included in a $1.2 trillion government funding package signed into law by President Joe Biden. The money was actually appropriated in November, when the Pentagon acted on a temporary continuing resolution, an administration official said.

- So while their passage may have marked a short-term victory for both parties, it was essentially a symbolic step. The $300 million is "not available for use now."
