Lois is the most well rounded 3 dimensional character on the show.

From the moment we meet Lois, we already know so much about her. She's just recently stopped smoking, she talks to herself, and she's the kind of person who just accepts crashing into a naked man lol. Then, as the episode progresses, we find out Lois doesn't like uncomfortable silences, she is Chloe's cousin, she doesn't pay attention to curfew and never makes her bed. She's also very independent and was raised to be self-sufficient. All of this is from one episode, and it just goes from there.

Lois is such a rich character on her own, I mean she is THE Lois Lane. The GOAT. But in this show there are so many little details that help give her all this depth, even when she was relegated to half a season for a while before being a female co-lead. White Snake is her favorite band, but she also likes Def Leppard and Motley Crue. She plays video games like Guitar Hero but can also fight due to her army brat background. She secretly loves to slow dance, is a huge fan of monster truck rallies, and prefers a greasy burger over fine dining. She likes beer and can drink most under the table, she can't spell to save her life, she takes long showers when she can (I always thought this was because it wasn't allowed growing up on army bases), she's a terrible driver but will drop everything to help a dog on the road, especially when she's the one who accidentally hit him, she loves movies, she used to unwrap and rewrap her presents when her parents were sleeping, she uses costumes both for her investigative reporting and in her personal life, and she has no problem punching someone who has diplomatic immunity. As her story progresses, she becomes just as comfortable in skirts and dress pants as she is in jeans. This isn't even all of the things we learn about Lois throughout her time on the show.

It's not just surface level things either, there is a deeper and more emotional side to the things we know about Lois. She lost her mom to cancer when she was 6, she was parentified at a young age and had to raise her sister as her father was an absent parent. She feels like everyone always abandons her, she is terrified of true intimacy, she is fiercely loyal to her friends, she is brave and bold, at times rash and impulsive, tenacious, hides a pure heart that very few get to see, and has a sense of justice that rivals Clark's.

I find all the details that got lovingly woven into the tapestry of Lois' character so beautiful and fascinating, because what other character on the show do we know this much about? Can we name 3 bands that any other character likes? Can we name even half of the amount of details that are listed in this post for anyone else? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think so. Lois is special in that way, she was given so much space to be a full character.
First-time viewer. Halfway through the show. I hold this show as evidence that Marvel did us all a huge favor by doing away with secret identities.

I'm enjoying Smallville quite a bit, but halfway through the show (finished Season 5), my biggest problem with it is that Clark lies--a lot. Honestly, he lies too much for him to really be considered a "good guy." It used to be that he was just being evasive, but as time has gone on he's become quite a skilled liar. I realize that this is supposed to be Clark before he becomes Superman, but it is hard to really cheer for a character who treats his "friends" as badly as Clark does. He doesn't seem to respect them at all.

It got me to thinking. I used to be somewhat annoyed at the flippancy with which Marvel dismissed the whole notion of superhero secret identities back when they were on their rise to power. Now I think they did us all a favor. The show is really struggling to contain itself with keeping Clark as a farmboy and small-town hero. Honestly, at this point practically every member of the cast (except for maybe Lois) should heavily suspect Clark of being at least a meteor freak if not outright an alien. There is simply too much evidence against him being a "normal" guy. It makes it difficult to take Lex seriously as an up-and-coming villain, especially since Lex's big attribute is supposed to be how smart he is.

I get that Clark's deceitfulness is supposed to cost him (like losing Lana, for instance), but I'm not sure if the show actually wants me to root for Lex instead of him. Lex, at least, has a goal, whereas Clark doesn't--he's just sorta aimlessly wandering around through life. So my inclination is to root for the character who is pursuing a goal. Does it continue on like this for the second half of the show, or does Clark eventually move away from Smallville so that he's not constantly at the center of every single suspicious thing that happens? I know he never turns into Superman on this show (which honestly feels like a mistake, but it is what it is), but unless they're going to continue having half the cast lose their memories every few episodes (a plot device that already got tiresome a season or two ago), it doesn't seem like the current trajectory is sustainable. It really feels like the show is just crying out to make a permanent move to Metropolis but can't do it because the name of the show is literally "Smallville" and not "Superman." I was wondering if the show ever comes up with a solution to this problem, or if it's only going to get more absurd from here.

Some mild spoilers are fine. I'm not too fussed over things like that. I do want to point out that despite my blunt writing and somewhat harsh tone, I am enjoying the show quite a bit.
Clark couldn't stand her and ended up marrying her. Lois Lane, who is a superhero magnet.

So I’ve came across this sub quite a few times and I actually read like I’ve seen this show and I haven’t seen 1 episode Lmaoo but I’m well aware of the series. How can y’all convince me to watch this show? What makes it worth watching?

I really dislike Chloe, but this episode I HATED her. I'm watching Smallville for the first time and I really don't understand how Clark continues to forgive Chloe. She treats him like a project, not like a best friend. She's jealous and insecure about Lana and make Clark feel incredibly bad about "invading her privacy" when tats all she ever does. I really hope she has some sort of redeeming arc bc it's making it hard for me to watch the show at all.
THAT s8 arc would have worked much better had it happened at the beginning of the season

Upon doing a re-watch, I found myself wondering if Lana's s8 arc would have worked better had it followed immediately after the first few episodes, instead of clumsily being shoehorned in the middle of the season. Obviously tweaking some events like Davis being introduced earlier, etc.

I feel like the arc did a huge disservice to both the Clana and Clois ships. Lana leaves and the next episode Clark acts like nothing happened and even has a chance to use the Legion ring to end up before Lana got the suit but doesn't. And the Clark and Lois flirtations being sidelined and then having Lois run off to Star City for those episodes just never sat well with me either.

If we get Lana's arc in the beginning of the season, we can see Clark more gradually and authentically mourn the ending of his relationship with Lana and move on. We would also see Clark and Lois growing closer more organically without that weird elephant in the room that it seems they never even got to talk about. Idk. What do you guys think??

Small observation but I think it’s funny that Jensen Ackles plays a character named Jason in a DC show. Jensen Ackles went on to voice Jason Todd/Red Hood in Batman: Under the Red Hood almost a decade later.

Also, the storyline of him & Lana dating while he’s a coach & she’s a student is super gross.
