On Saturday, the District Secretary of Health in Colombia confirmed in a press release that the drummer, 50, died in the town of Chapinero after suffering chest pains at his hotel.
"The District Secretary of Health mourns the death of this talented musician and drummer, widely recognized internationally for his work. In addition, the entity sends its message of condolences to the family, colleagues, and followers," the release concludes.
Hawkins' bandmates announced his death on Friday night.
"The Foo Fighters Family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever," a statement shared on the band's social media accounts reads.

🚨A suspected robber in Philadelphia was shot dead when a customer in a smoke shop managed to get ahold of the suspect’s gun and shoot him, according to reports.
"At this point, we believe there was a robbery inside the smoke shop. Possibly the tables were turned on the robber, and that's when the robber got shot and he was able to get in this Toyota in the passenger seat who was driven two-and-a-half blocks," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said, according to Fox 29.
The suspect allegedly went into the smoke shop in Philadelphia’s Olney neighborhood early Tuesday morning armed with a gun while a pair of men were getting cash out of an ATM inside the shop.
Police said they responded to calls of two shooting victims at the smoke shop at about 1 a.m. Tuesday. Officers did not find any victims inside the smoke shop but determined it was the scene of the shooting due to blood and shell casings found at the location.

The trend suggests the impact of COVID-19 closures on student success continues to be felt, according to a study released Wednesday by education software company Renaissance Learning.
"We can reset instruction back to where it was pre-pandemic, but that isn’t going to instantly move students up to where they would have been had the pandemic not occurred," Gene Kerns, vice president, and chief academic officer at Renaissance, said in a statement.

The crowd of climate activists gathered outside the White House before marching to the Capitol building. The protest was part of a global climate strike demanding Biden "end all fossil fuel projects," "ensure a just and immediate transition to renewable energies," "hold polluters accountable," and "declare a climate emergency," according to the Action Network's event page.
Another activist said Biden needs to do "everything in his power to secure the Green New Deal."

🏢The Trump Organization came one step closer to officially unloading their famed hotel in the nation’s capital.
The federal government officially gave the green light to sell the Trump Hotel to CGI Merchant Group, a Miami-based investment firm. The hotel is in Washington D.C.’s historic Old Post Office building.
The Trump Organization does not own the building and is instead selling the rights to a long-term lease it has secured for the property from the federal government.
The sale price is expected to be $375 million. The new owners plan to keep the building as a hotel — sans the Trump name — and rebrand the property as a Waldorf Astoria, which is owned by Hilton.
