❗️🇮🇱🇺🇸🇮🇷 Israel has told the US that it carried out the assassination of Col. Sayyad Khodai, a former member of the elite Quds force within Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps, the New York Times reports. The Israelis said the killing was meant to serve as a warning to Iran to halt the operations of the Quds force's Unit 840, which is allegedly involved in abductions and assassinations worldwide, an intelligence official told NYT.

🔖📣Wisconsin Democrats are calling for stricter gun laws, and two Republican candidates for governor are proposing to give school officials new funding to hire security guards and police officers.
The proposals underline the deep divisions between elected Democrats and Republicans in Wisconsin over how to respond to the most recent wave of mass shootings that have scarred families nationwide.
On Wednesday, Attorney General Josh Kaul called on Republicans, who control the Legislature, to require background checks for all gun purchases and establish a red-flag law that would allow judges to remove guns from those considered dangerous.

🎆🌎After spending a little less than a week at the International Space Station (ISS), Boeing’s new passenger spacecraft, the CST-100 Starliner, returned to Earth Wednesday afternoon, landing intact with the help of parachutes and airbags in the New Mexico desert.
The safe return is a significant accomplishment for Boeing after the company spent years working on the program, which has been riddled with failures and delays.
Boeing’s Starliner capsule, shaped like a gumdrop, was built in partnership with NASA to launch the agency’s astronauts to and from the ISS.

🔎📍The World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland is well underway, and despite not being as crowded as in previous years there is a lot happening on the ground.
“We’ve never had a Davos like this one,” Rich Lesser, global chair of Boston Consulting Group, said in an interview. “The challenges of the world feel pretty immense."
Beyond the mandatory coronavirus tests, the mood is decidedly somber, weighed heavily by concerns about the covid-19 pandemic, continuing war, widening economic inequality, and fears of a global economic slowdown.

A parent of one of the children who was killed in the Texas school shooting blames the police that they "didn’t do a darn thing [until] it was far too late".
“Let’s just rush in because the cops aren’t doing anything like they are supposed to,” Javier Cazares reportedly said he told other onlookers at the scene.
A witness who lives across the street from the school also said onlookers begged the police to do something. An alleged video from the scene shows someone pinned to the ground by officers, while everyone around demands answers from law enforcement
