❗A US court has dismissed a rape lawsuit against Cristiano Ronaldo

Kathryn Mayorga, 37, an alleged rape victim, filed a civil lawsuit against Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018: she claimed that the football player's lawyers had paid her $375,000 in hush money. The woman was reportedly seeking $79 million in damages for "past pain and suffering".

US District Judge Jennifer Dorsey in Las Vegas dismissed the case with no option to file it again, adding that Ronaldo was "harmed" by conduct of Mayorga's attorney, Leslie Mark Stovall: "I find that the procurement and continued use of these documents was bad faith, and simply disqualifying Stovall will not cure the prejudice to Ronaldo because the misappropriated documents and their confidential contents have been woven into the very fabric of (plaintiff Kathryn) Mayorga's claims...Harsh sanctions are merited", the ruling said.

🚫 Meta* lawyers are reportedly investigating Sheryl Sandberg

Meta*’s lawyers are investigating outgoing COO Sheryl Sandberg amid claims she misused company resources. The Wall Street Journal reports the investigation goes back “several years” and is scrutinizing Meta* employees’ work on Sandberg’s personal projects.

The company was examining whether she had improperly used company resources in planning her upcoming wedding. Meta* lawyers are reportedly looking at Facebook* staff’s involvement with Sandberg’s foundation Lean In, and their work to help her promote her most recent book, "Option B." The company is also investigating reports that Sandberg used Facebook*staffers in an attempt to kill a negative story about her former partner, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick.

Meta* spends millions of dollars every year on their personal security and travel expenses, and both executives have tapped Facebook* employees to help with personal projects.

*Meta, Facebook, and Instagram are banned in Russia over extremist activities.

📲 Telegram Premium is coming later this month

In a post on the platform, founder Pavel Durov announced that the messaging service is launching a paid Telegram Premium subnoscription later this month, giving users “additional features, speed and resources.”

Durov hints at some of the features coming with the subnoscription, including early access to new features, the ability to upload larger files, and Premium-only stickers and reactions. But Durov also makes it clear that Telegram’s existing features will stay free, and that the paid features won’t affect the experience for free users on the app.

As Durov explains, a Premium subnoscription should help the service mitigate some of the costs associated with bumping up what Durov calls the “already crazy” limits on file sizes, chats, and media — something Durov says would be “unmanageable” if offered to all users.

💲 Native American youth to be tapped for conservation projects

US Interior Secretary Deb Haaland on Friday rolled out guidelines for a new youth service program meant to create job opportunities for Native Americans while boosting their cultural connections to nature through conservation projects on tribal and public land.

The Indian Youth Service Corps is the latest addition to the Biden administration’s plans for building a 21st century version of the New Deal-era Civilian Conservation Corps. The mission includes everything from clearing brush to reduce wildfire threats and restore forests to preserving historic sites, helping with archaeological research and building trails.

The Interior Department is funneling a combined $3.3 million this year to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the National Park Service and the Bureau of Reclamation to establish the Indian Youth Service Corps.

🏛 Governors forming task force to address mass shootings

The leaders of the National Governors Association said Friday they’re forming a bipartisan working group to come up with recommendations to stop mass shootings following the Texas school massacre.

Reaching consensus could be a tall order given that the nation’s governors have been divided along partisan lines on how to approach issues of gun control and school safety. The US House this week approved a wide-ranging gun control bill that has little chance of passing the Senate.

A recent survey by The Associated Press showed governors divided, with Democrats calling for more restrictions on guns and Republicans focusing instead on beefing up school security.
