“I ended her life”: Brian Laundrie admitted to killing Gabby Petito in his notebook left in the Florida swamp where he committed suicide.
“I thought it was merciful, that it is what she wanted, but I see now all the mistakes I made. I panicked. I was in shock," he proclaimed in the note, which was recovered by the FBI in October, according to Fox News.
Gabby Petito, a 22-year-old from Long Island, went missing on a road trip with her boyfriend Brian Laundrie and was found strangled to death in a camping site near the Grand Tetons on September 19. Laundrie disappeared following her death, leading police on a nationwide manhunt. His remains were later found in the Florida reserve.

Since 13 June, Ecuador has been paralyzed by demonstrations against the economic policies of President Guillermo Lasso, with thousands, led primarily by indigenous organization Conaie, marching through the capital and at times clashing with police. Police have launched tear gas and smoke bombs at the protesters.

🚨A shooting attack early Saturday in the center of Norway's capital city Oslo has left at least two dead and 14 injured. The Norwegian police indicated that the incident was recorded at 01:00 local time (23:00 GMT) in a nightclub and other nearby places, including a gay bar.
A spokesman for the police force said that the first investigations revealed a single person likely committed the criminal act and added that two weapons were seized at the scene of the incident.
Among the 14 injured, eight were taken to the hospital, while the others were treated on the spot by medical services. "Some were described as seriously wounded, others as lightly wounded," the police source said.
Police described the situation as "confused" and called the shooting "continuous life-threatening violence." The alleged perpetrator of the shooting was arrested near the scene shortly after.

The Pentagon has awarded an 18-year-long contract worth $12 billion to the UK-based defense company BAE Systems. The agreement sees BAE "supporting and augmenting" Washington's Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapon systems, as well as providing "professional services" related to their operations. It expires in December 2040.
The US Department of Defense did not elaborate further on the nature of the BAE Systems' work on the ICBMs, which can deliver nuclear warheads. However, the Pentagon noted that most of the results would be carried out at the US Air Force Nuclear Weapon Center in Hill Air Force Base, Utah.
This is one of the biggest contracts allocated by the Pentagon this year amid a slashed defense budget. At the same time, the Biden administration called for increasing investments in the Ground-Based Strategic Deterrent, namely ICBMs, and the overall nuclear weapons budget contracted by $813 billion for 2023.

🏛President Joe Biden on Saturday signed the most sweeping gun violence bill in decades, a bipartisan compromise that seemed unimaginable until a recent series of mass shootings, including the massacre of 19 students and two teachers at a Texas elementary school.
“Time is of the essence. Lives will be saved,” he said in the Roosevelt Room of the White House. Citing the families of shooting victims, he has met, the president said, “Their message to us was, ‘Do something.’ How many times did we hear that? ‘Just do something. For God’s sake, just do something.’ Today we did.”
Most of its $13 billion costs will help bolster mental health programs and aid schools, which have been targeted in Newtown, Connecticut, Parkland, Florida, and elsewhere in mass shootings.

🦠💉Pfizer announced Saturday that tweaking its COVID-19 vaccine to better target the omicron variant is safe and works just days before regulators debate whether to offer Americans updated booster shots this fall.
The vaccines currently used in the U.S. still offer strong protection against severe COVID-19 disease and death -- especially if people have gotten a booster dose. But those vaccines target the original coronavirus strain and their effectiveness against any infection dropped markedly when the super-contagious omicron mutant emerged.
Now with omicron’s even more transmissible relatives spreading widely, the Food and Drug Administration is considering ordering a recipe change for the vaccines made by both Pfizer and rival Moderna in hopes that modified boosters could better protect against another COVID-19 surge expected this fall and winter.

✝️Pope Francis celebrated families Saturday and urged them to shun “selfish” decisions that are indifferent to life as he closed out a big Vatican rally a day after the U.S. Supreme Court ended constitutional protections for abortion.
Francis didn’t refer to the ruling or explicitly mention abortion in his homily. But he used the buzzwords he has throughout his papacy about the need to defend families and to condemn a “culture of waste” that he believes is behind the societal acceptance of abortion.
“Let us not allow the family to be poisoned by the toxins of selfishness, individualism, today's culture of indifference and waste, and as a result lose its very DNA, which is the spirit of welcoming and service,” he said.
“The pope, noting that some couples allow their fears and anxieties to “thwart the desire to bring new lives in the world,” called for them not to cling to selfish desires”.
