🇲🇽 Mexico’s Former President Echeverria Dead at 100
Mexico’s Former President Luis Echeverria Alvarez, who led the country in 1970-1976, has died at the age of 100, Mexico’s President Manuel Lopez Obrador has confirmed.
"On behalf of the Government of Mexico, I send respectful condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Luis Echeverria Alvarez, president of Mexico during the six-year term from 1970 to 1976," Obrador said on social media on Saturday.
According to Mexican media reports, the former president died on Friday at his home in Cuernavaca, the capital of Mexico’s Morelos state.
Born on January 17, 1922 in the Mexican capital, Echeverria is remembered for accusations that he (then-Secretary of the Interior) was one of the people responsible for the repression of the student protests in 1968 in the Tlatelolco section of Mexico City, which left scores of young people dead.
Echeverria was arrested on charges of genocide in 2006, but in 2009 the charges were dismissed.

👶 Abbott Plant in Michigan Has Reportedly Resumed Production of Special Infant Formula
The Abbott Nutrition factory in Michigan, is resuming production of EleCare formula for infants with food allergies, The Washington Post reports citing an Abbott spokesman.
Production of EleCare resumed at the Sturgis plant after a July 1 reboot, spokesman John Koval said as cited by the newspaper on Saturday, adding that the factory is "working to restart Similac production as soon as we can."
The US has been suffering from baby formula shortage since Abbott initiated a product recall in February, over concerns about bacterial contamination at Abbott’s Michigan facility, which came after four infants fell ill and two died.
The Biden administration invoked the Defense Production Act to boost production of infant formula and to use US military cargo airplanes in order to expedite overseas shipments of the product. Abbott said that it had reached a deal with the FDA to resume production of its infant formula in Michigan.

Marine veteran has emergency landing on North Carolina highway
A pilot flying in North Carolina made a daring forced landing on a freeway, successfully weaving through traffic and eventually coming to a complete stop. The harrowing video was captured with the pilot’s GoPro camera.
Vincent Fraser, a Florida resident and ex-Marine, abandoned a property near Lake Fontana in Swain County. Fraser was flying a single-engine plane with his mother-in-law when the engine began to fail. Fraser’s only option was to try to land on US Route 19.
The emergency landing, which Swain County Sheriff Curtis Cochran called “INCREDIBLE”, resulted in no one on the road or the pilot being injured.

🇺🇸 Made in America: Companies bringing manufacturing back to the US
An overwhelming majority of American companies with production operations in China have already moved some back to the US. Almost four in five corporations companies have already shifted production to the US and at least 15% are considering it due to high tariffs and ongoing supply chain challenges. The Trump administration pushed for "America First" trade and called to bring jobs back to the US as the trade war began in 2018.
The manufacturer behind Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, and Hummer announced its biggest investment to increase its battery cell production to achieve its aim of becoming North America's biggest electric vehicle producer. Intel is investing $12 billion on two chip factories near Phoenix that are due to open in 2024. US Steel is investing in a $3 billion steelmaking factory in Osceola, Arkansas. Similarly, Nucor is spending about $2.7 billion on a steel plate mill in Brandberg, Kentucky.

💉 California will start making affordable insulin on its own
Insulin prices are so high that California has decided to make its own, California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Thursday. $100 million of the state’s budget will be put into the effort, which seeks to make the lifesaving drug more affordable after years of skyrocketing prices.
“Nothing epitomizes market failures more than the cost of insulin,” Newsom said in a brief statement posted online, noting that patients can pay $300–$500 a month for the drug.
Other groups have also tried to combat insulin’s high prices. In Colorado, insulin prices are now capped at $100 thanks to a 2019 law, and many other states have similar caps on the books or in the works. A federal effort to cap insulin prices is also underway. In May, the nonprofit Civica Rx announced it was working on a project to manufacture insulin and sell it for no more than $30 a vial.

🚙 Ford recalls 100,000 hybrid vehicles over fire risk
Ford has issued a recall for certain 2020 to 2022 model Corsair, Escape and Maverick hybrid vehicles over concerns that they could catch fire. The recall affects 100,689 vehicles in the US, all with 2.5-liter hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric engines.
Dealers will fix recalled vehicles when owners turn them in by modifying their under-engine shields and active grille shutters. Last month, Ford also recalled 49,000 Mach-E EVs, citing concerns about the possibility of their high-voltage battery connectors overheating. In that particular case, the issue could prevent the vehicle from starting or cause them to lose propulsion power while on the road.

🇺🇦💵 The US and its allies will reportedly not be able to maintain their current level of support for Kiev for a prolonged period of time.
Despite the fact that US President Joe Biden has vowed to stand with Ukraine for "as long as it takes", no one expects more billions of support for Ukraine when Washington’s currently-authorized aid package of $54 billion in military and other assistance runs out, The New York Times reports, citing anonymous officials.
Officials admitted to the newspaper that US and European stocks of weapons will run low at some point and it would be hard to sustain the same level of material support as war fatigue grows.

🇯🇵 The man who shot and killed former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told police he had tried to make a bomb - reports
Tetsuya Yamagami, 41, also said he "made multiple guns," the investigative sources told Kyodo news agency on Sunday, adding that police have found and confiscated guns at the attacker’s home in Nara, similar to the gun used by the shooter on Friday.
Abe was attacked on Friday morning in the Japanese city of Nara during his campaign speech. Yamagami approached the politician from behind and fired two shots from a distance of about 10 meters (33 feet). Police said Abe was conscious immediately after being wounded, but then, during transportation, his condition became critical "with cardiac and pulmonary arrest." 👀 A story about a 10-year-old rape victim who traveled to another state to get an abortion keeps raising questions after President Biden cited it in his Friday speech.
"This isn't some imagined horror," Biden said. "Just last week, it was reported that a 10-year-old girl was a rape victim - 10 years old - and she was forced to have to travel out of state to Indiana to seek to terminate the pregnancy and maybe save her life."
🗣 Washington Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler called the story very difficult to verify, sharing that it is only a one-source story, and the gynecologist who claimed she was allegedly contacted by a child abuse doctor about the incident is a prominent abortion advocate.
Kessler also stated that the OB-GYN declined to provide details about the location of the alleged rape, or whether it was being investigated by authorities.

"Go f**k yourself Jill": Hunter Biden reportedly called Jill a "silly ennoscriptd c**t" and "vindictive moron" after FLOTUS tried to persuade him to pursue drug addiction treatment.
The revelations were made by The Sun, that cited text messages it had obtained from the laptop that allegedly belonged to the US president's son.
"F**k my stepmother for always being as much of a selfish silly ennoscriptd c**t as you," the president's troubled son reportedly texted to his brother Beau’s widow, Hallie Biden, who he was scandalously seeing at the time.
Days later, he reportedly acknowledged in messages to his uncle James Biden that he'd called his stepmom a "f**king moron, a vindictive moron," adding that he had irately told Jill he was smarter than her.
In another text to his father, Hunter reportedly apologized for over-reacting: "...Tell mom I love her and I’m sorry I say mean things, I don’t mean them."
