🌤❄️Italy, Spain, Germany, Portugal, France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom are enduring severe droughts this summer. Italy’s worst drought in decades has reduced Lake Garda, the country’s largest, to near its lowest level ever recorded and warming the water to temperatures that approach the average in the Caribbean Sea.

The European Commission’s Joint Research Centre warned this week that drought conditions would worsen and potentially affect 47 percent of the continent.

Current conditions result from long periods of dry weather caused by changes in world weather systems, said meteorologist Peter Hoffmann of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research near Berlin.

🧀 France's cheese, Salers, is facing a production crisis because of the shortage of grass. The semi-hard cheese, made from unpasteurized cow's milk has been produced in the Salers region in the Auvergne for two millennia.

However, one of the stipulations behind its manufacture is that the Salers cow should live on a diet of which at least 75% is pasture grass. Because of the drought the green pastures have dried up
