🎾Friday night was Roger Federer's final match before retiring at age 41 after a superlative career that included 20 Grand Slam noscripts and a statesman’s role. He wrapped up his days as a professional player with a loss in doubles alongside his longtime rival Rafael Nadal for Team Europe in the Laver Cup against Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock of Team World.

The Swiss star announced last week that the three-day team event, which his management company founded, would be his final event before retirement, then made clear the doubles outing would be his last match.

“For me, just personally, (it was) sad in the first moment, when I came to the conclusion it’s the best decision,
” Federer said in an interview with Associated Press. “I kind of held it in at first, then fought it off. But I could feel the pain.”

▪️A Black man died after a police encounter in a Denver suburb in 2019 because he was injected with a powerful sedative after being forcibly restrained, according to an amended autopsy report publicly released Friday.

Despite the finding, the death of Elijah McClain, a 23-year-old massage therapist, was still listed as undetermined, not a homicide, the report shows. McClain was put in a neck hold and injected with ketamine after being stopped by police in Aurora for “being suspicious.” He was unarmed.

The original autopsy report written soon after his death in August 2019 did not conclude how he died or what type of death is was, such as if it was natural, accidental, or a homicide. That was a major reason why prosecutors initially decided not to pursue charges.

🌊🌪Hurricane Fiona blew past Puerto Rico last week, expected to transform into a huge post-tropical storm that will bring hurricane-strength winds, heavy rain, and big waves to Atlantic Canada, meteorologists said Friday in a warning that it has the potential to be one of the most severe storms in the country’s history.

Hurricane Fiona, which weakened a bit to a Category 3 storm, is forecast to make landfall Saturday morning.

The Canadian Hurricane Centre issued a hurricane watch over extensive coastal expanses of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland.

“This is is definitely going to be one of, if not the most powerful, tropical cyclones to affect our part of the country,” said Ian Hubbard, meteorologist for the Canadian Hurricane Centre in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. “It’s going to be definitely as severe and as bad as any I’ve seen.”

📉 Americans have lost an average of $4,200 in annual income since President Joe Biden took office, the Heritage Foundation revealed.
As consumer prices soared 12.7% since January 2021, outpacing wages, the average American has lost about $3,000 in annual purchasing power, the think tank stated.

Interest rates hikes by the US Federal Reserve together with growing borrowing costs have slashed purchasing power by another $1,200, according to the report. All this has wiped out the $4,000 increase in yearly earnings achieved under the Donald Trump administration
