🧸 🇬🇧 More than 1,000 Paddington bears and other teddies left in tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II in London and Windsor will be donated to a children’s charity, Buckingham Palace said Saturday.
Mourners left thousands of tributes, including flowers and teddy bears, outside Buckingham Palace and in royal parks in London and outside Windsor Castle in an outpouring of grief after the U.K.’s longest-reigning monarch died on Sept. 8 at age 96.
The queen became linked to Paddington bear, another British national treasure, after the two appeared together in a short comedy video during Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this year to mark the monarch’s 70 years on the throne.

🇭🇹The U.S. and Canada sent armored vehicles and other supplies to Haiti on Saturday to help police fight a powerful gang amid a pending request from the Haitian government for the immediate deployment of foreign troops.
A spokesman for the U.S. military’s Southern Command said he could not provide further details on the supplies sent. However, he added that it was a joint operation involving the U.S. Air Force and Royal Canadian Air Force.
“This equipment will assist (Haiti’s National Police) in their fight against criminal actors who are fomenting violence and disrupting the flow of critically-needed humanitarian assistance, hindering efforts to halt the spread of cholera,” the State Department said.

🇨🇳 The main points from Xi Jinping’s welcoming speech at the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party:
▪️China stands for genuine multilateralism and opposes any kind of hegemony;
▪️China does not abandon the option of using the military to reunite with Taiwan and reserves the right to take any necessary measures;
▪️Settling the Taiwan issue is a private matter for the Chinese people and should be decided by the Chinese themselves;
▪️Beijing will continue military reform to get a world-class military by the 100th anniversary of the People's Liberation Army of China in 2027;
▪️It is necessary for the country to improve its public health system, strengthen the prevention and control of epidemics, and effectively contain the spread of major infectious diseases

🇬🇧 Rebellious Tory MPs are plotting how to oust UK Prime Minister Liz Truss and replace her with Ben Wallace as part of a “rescue mission for the Conservative party,” the Sunday Mirror reported.
With the ruling party facing disastrous polls in the wake of Truss’s fiscal plans that led her to fire her finance minister, Kwasi Kwarteng, and reverse major parts of her tax-cutting Growth Plan, the Secretary of State for Defence is regarded by the alleged plotters as the best option.
Reinstating Rishi Sunak as Chancellor is also viewed by the Tory rebels as a way to “calm the bond markets and strengthen the pound.”

🇿🇲🇿🇼🇿🇦 Africa’s finance ministers have accused developed western countries and international financial institutions of deliberately sidelining the continent when it comes to issues of global importance.
The finance chiefs of Zimbabwe, Zambia, and South Africa - among others - complained that Africa’s weight at the negotiating table is “very narrow” and the continent remains “marginalized”, while speaking after the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) from 10 to 16 October in Washington DC.

🇨🇺 The Cuban Missile Crisis - 60 years on
On 16 October 1962, the CIA told President Kennedy that Soviet missiles had been found in Cuba. Sputnik India channel recalled what happened next and how the crisis was resolved.
📌 What experts say: How is the Cuban crisis different from today's tensions?
“Today, the US has missile launch bases in Romania and Poland that can fire first-strike attack nuclear-capable cruise missiles that could hit Russia in minutes. At the same time, US-NATO have their intelligence services and special forces troops inside Ukraine running the war against Russia. Along with the ever-expanding NATO, these realities indicate that this war is much severer than what happened in 1962,” Bruce Gagnon, director of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space, told Sputnik.
Oliver Boyd-Barrett, a professor emeritus at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, recollected that “the Soviet Union is not Russia - the Soviet Union had a mission to spread communist philosophy, whereas a capitalist Russia in reality poses no threat to the West beyond the protection of its natural security interests," he said.
“The aggressive force here is the West, salivating for access to Russian natural resources after the putative dismemberment of the federation,” he added.
