🐧 The US has designated the emperor penguin as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act, federal officials announced.
With Antarctic sea ice slowly disappearing and breaking apart, emperor penguins are gradually losing the ground which is necessary for breeding, raising chicks, and escaping predators. Some experts even claim that 9% of the world’s emperor penguin population will disappear by 2100.

💬 “When global leaders called at the UN for peace in Ukraine, they were not just addressing it to Russia and Ukraine. They were addressing it to the United States and to the Western European countries that are part of this, [they are] absolutely up to their necks in that crisis. And this is the multipolar world starting to emerge. And the United States is no longer a champion of international law. It is no longer has the power to, you know, to a carrot and stick its way to indisputable influence on every country in the world. It is the rest of the world is coming of age. The colonial era is gone and the neo colonial era is going,” says Nicolas Davies, an independent journalist and researcher with CODEPINK, the author of Blood on Our Hands, the American Invasion and Destruction of Iraq.

◾️The Republican National Committee has filed a lawsuit against Google, alleging the tech giant is purposely diverting its emails to users' spam folders.
"Google has relegated millions of RNC emails en masse to potential donors' and supporters' spam folders during pivotal points in election fundraising and community building," the RNC said in the lawsuit.
Google rejects the claims, and its spokesperson, Jose Castaneda, said, "As we have repeatedly said, we simply don't filter emails based on political affiliation. Gmail's spam filters reflect users' actions." The RNC has claimed that for most of the month, almost all of its emails were sent to users' inboxes, adding that at the end of the month's important fundraising period, nearly all of their emails were forwarded to spam folders.

📊Google-parent Alphabet Inc missed market estimates for quarterly revenue on Tuesday as advertisers cut back on their spending in the face of an economic slowdown.
Google’s total advertising sales improved to $54.5 billion from $53.13 billion a year ago but badly missed analysts’ average expectations of $56.58 billion. The search was $39.5 billion, compared with $37.93 billion last year. YouTube ad sales slipped to $7.07 billion from $7.21 billion a year ago.
“When Google stumbles, it’s a bad omen for digital advertising at large,” Insider Intelligence analyst Evelyn Mitchell said. “Not only did Google miss analyst expectations for topline revenue, but YouTube ad revenues also shrank for the first time since Google started reporting YouTube earnings separately in Q4 2019, due largely to persistent competition in streaming and a short video.”

🎃🎃Halloween is just days away, and with pandemic restrictions in the past, people are embracing the spooky spirit this Halloween. The National Retail Federation reports that 69% of consumers plan to celebrate Halloween this year – a huge increase from 2020, when only 58% of Americans celebrated.
But will creeping prices curb holiday spending? Not at all, according to the NRF. The NRF expects Americans to spend a record-breaking $10.6 billion this year, almost $2 billion more than they spent pre-pandemic.
"People are spending, and there's a return to this pre-pandemic, getting together and handing out candy. Ultimately consumers are going to spend about $100,” said Johnson & Wales marketing Professor Kristen Regine. That's a big increase in cash spent since everything from candy to costumes costs substantially more. But that's not to say consumers aren't reacting.

🖥Microsoft on Tuesday reported a 14% drop in profit for the July-September quarter compared to last year, reflecting a weak market for personal computers affecting its Windows business.
Microsoft’s computing business, centered on its Windows software, was widely expected to take a hit given economic uncertainties such as inflation. In addition, many consumers bought new devices during the pandemic, helping crimp demand.
Worldwide shipments of personal computers declined almost 20% in the quarter from last year, according to market research firm Gartner, which said it was the steepest decline since it began tracking the PC market in the mid-1990s. A disappointing back-to-school sales season for new computers also contributed to a fourth consecutive quarter of year-over-year decline, Gartner said.

🇳🇬The National Emergency Agency (NEMA) of Nigeria reported on Tuesday that at least 612 people died due to floods caused by severe rainfall.
The agency specified that more than 3,219,000 people weed affected, 1,427,000 were displaced, 181,600 homes were affected, and 123,807 were destroyed due to the most devastating floods in a decade.
Similarly, Nema reported that almost 400,000 hectares of crops had been damaged, threatening the already deteriorated food situation in the African nation. International sources assure that the most recent floods with historical records are due to the effects of climate change, which is causing the development of the environmental crisis.
