🤯 The latest figure to speak out against the proposed price cap is former US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, who said on Friday that the idea was “not only not feasible, I think it’s the most ridiculous idea I’ve ever heard.”
💬 “I think the problem now is that there’s limited options ... there’s parts of the world that are now buying Russian oil outside of US sanctions,” he said. “But look, a price cap, the market is going to set the price. So if you put sanctions on at higher prices, in a way you’re just making the situation worse, in my opinion.”
▪️The US boycott has helped push up the price of oil and gas around the globe, which has had the opposite of its intended effect, buttressing Russian profits as Moscow shifts from Europe to new buyers in Asia instead of losing out on sales altogether. The price cap is seen as an attempt to undermine this new advantage and at the same time bring down prices worldwide, which are helping to drive record-high inflation.

🇨🇳 The news that China may hold a third Belt and Road Forum is important, as the ambitious, gargantuan infrastructure program has proven its worth in a time of crisis, a scholar has explained to Sputnik.
💭 “I think that the ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative will aid to the building of bridges between Asia and the rest of the world. For example, the results of the initiatives have recently been reflected in relations between China and the European Union. After the Russia-Ukraine conflict broke out, some European countries became prejudiced toward China, with Sino-European relations hitting their worst-ever level in March. However, German Chancellor [Olaf] Scholz recently visited China and urged [Europe] not to separate from China, and French President Emmanuel Macron has also announced plans to visit China,” the scholar explained.

🗣 The comments made by Chair of the Senior Arctic Officials and Russian Ambassador-at-Large Nikolay Korchunov on media reports about US allegedly planning to have a claim on Wrangel Island:
▪️ Attempts by experts in the United States to present territorial claims to Russia on Wrangel Island are unproductive, these are extremist initiatives;
▪️ Russia's ownership of Wrangel Island, which the United States wanted to take away, is undeniable, such proposals are made for the sake of self-promotion;
▪️ Moscow will immediately respond if the United States seriously risks making territorial claims to Wrangel Island.

🇰🇵 North Korean leader Kim Jong Un says Pyongyang's successful test-firing of the Hwasong-17 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) confirms the country’s ability to contain any nuclear threat, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reports.
▪️ State media reported that the North Korean leader had been at the launch site to "confirm once again that the nuclear forces of the DPRK have secured another reliable and maximum capacity to contain any nuclear threat."
🗣 "The test-fire clearly proved the reliability of the new major strategic weapon system to be representative of the DPRK's [Democratic People's Republic of Korea’s] strategic forces and its powerful combat performance as the strongest strategic weapon in the world," KCNA wrote.

🇺🇳 The United Nations is calling for a full investigation of all reported human rights violations in the context of more than 10 brutally executed Russian Prisoners of War (PoW) by the Ukrainian side, UN Spokesperson Farhan Haq told Sputnik.
💬 "We have called for all reported human rights violations by all sides in this conflict to be fully investigated and for there to be accountability," Haq said on Friday.
▪️ Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Ukrainian military had deliberately killed more than 10 captured Russian servicemen, shooting them in the head at point blank — a crime no one can present as a "tragic exception."

⚡️⚡️⚡️When asked by Sputnik at a news conference on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Bangkok whether the 🇺🇸 US, which focused a lot on anti-Russian rhetoric during G20 Indonesia events may exercise the same approach during its 2023 APEC chairmanship, 🇷🇺 Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov, who leads Russian delegation at the summit, has expressed cautious optimism. He said that in Kamala Harris's speech at the APEC handover ceremony on Saturday there were no anti-Russian statements. "The fact that the Americans did not mention the issues which they have been insistently raising recently in connection with Ukraine - I think it's a good sign" - Belousov added.
