Pentagon Considers Buying Electric Planes to Confront China – Report

In October, the US Department of Defense issued a request for information (RFI) to assess how a new electric aircraft might be deployed for military operations. The Pentagon said that the RFI, which is “solely for planning purposes,” aims “to better understand the current cost benefit” of the plane.

The Pentagon continues to move toward rolling out its first-ever electric plane amid a technological war with China, a US media outlet has reported.

The US Department of Energy has allowed the state of Texas to bypass some emissions standards for power plants in order to prevent a shortage of electricity during Christmas.

"I hereby determine that an emergency exists in Texas due to a shortage of electric energy, a shortage of facilities for the generation of electric energy, and other causes, and that issuance of this Order will meet the emergency and serve the public interest," Kathleen Hogan, Undersecretary of Energy for Infrastructure at the department, said.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) asked the US Department of Energy on Friday to exceed federal air quality restrictions in order to compensate for a higher demand for power amid unusually cold weather.

💬"The doctor who examined the suspect today in the late afternoon declared that the state of health of the person concerned was not compatible with the measure of police custody," the Paris prosecutor's office said, adding that the suspect "was taken to the psychiatric infirmary of the police headquarters."

The prosecutor’s office specified that the police custody measure was lifted pending the suspect’s appearance before the judge, "when his state of health allows it."

Scientists believe that the bones belong to a victim of ritual sacrifice practiced over 5,000 years ago.

Archaeologists have discovered an ancient body in Egedal Municipality, near Copenhagen, Denmark.

Researchers at ROMU, an organization representing 10 museums in Denmark, were excavating at the site of a planned housing development when one of them noticed a femur sticking out of the mud. After that they were able to retrieve nearly all the bones from both legs, a pelvis, and a jaw.

🇷🇺Russia will look for new markets and logistics even at higher costs so as not to supply oil at prices set by the West, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said on Sunday.

🗣"We will not supply oil by contracts, which will indicate price limits offered by Western countries. This is out of the question. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia will not supply oil under agreements that specify price caps," Siluanov stated.

The minister also said that Russia will look for new consumers as the demand for oil is expected to increase. "We will look for new markets, we will look for new logistics, and perhaps it will be more expensive," Siluanov specified.

🦉Two Red Book owls were saved in Moscow

▪️An eared owl and a swamp owl were rescued in Moscow from those who illegally used the wild animals for outdoor photoshoots.

▪️Now the owls are safe – they have been transferred to the Center for the Rehabilitation of Wild Animals of the Department of Nature Management and Environmental Protection of the City of Moscow.

▪️The long-eared owl is listed in the Red Book of Moscow under the 3rd category of rarity as a vulnerable species within Russia's capital, and the marsh owl is listed under the '0' category as a likely extinct species.

▪️Both species are included in the lists of annexes of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

US Winter Storm Causes Biggest Drop in Country's Gas Production in 10 Years, Reports Suggest

Natural gas production in the United States experienced its biggest one-day drop in over a decade on December 23 due to a heavy snowstorm across the country, US media reported.

Production plunged by some ten billion cubic feet, or 10%, on Friday compared with Thursday as liquids froze in pipes and wells had to close in major producing areas, including Texas, reports said.

Israeli Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu plans to suspend the annexation of West Bank settlements in exchange for clinching a Tel Aviv-Riyadh peace deal under the auspices of the 2020 Abraham Accords, an Israeli newspaper has reported.
