A new investigation, conducted by the non-profit organisation ProPublica, has revealed that WhatsApp employs more than 1,000 contract workers across the US who examine "millions of pieces of users' content" – and use Facebook software to do so.

This contradicts Mark Zuckerberg’s claims in 2019 that WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption had made it impossible even for the service itself to access users' messages, let alone Facebook.

Officials reportedly told Montalvo that he was allowed to conduct flights and deliver asylum seekers to “another destination country”, but not to the US, which would only approve charters to other receiving countries.

Meanwhile, reports claimed that nearly 1,000 people are still waiting for evacuation flights.
