Scientists create 'new tool' to detect AI-based chatbot writing

First study author Heather Desaire, a professor at the University of Kansas, said in a media release that she and her colleagues “tried hard to create an accessible method so that with little guidance, even high school students could build an AI detector for different types of writing.”

According to the survey, the researchers trained the new program to identify key differences between 64 real studies published in the journal Science and 128 ChatGPT-generated counterfeits.

The scientists said that the program flagged the AI-written papers more than 99% of the time and could correctly tell the difference between human-created and chatbot-generated paragraphs 92% of the time.

The study revealed that ChatGPT-written papers differed from human text in at least four key aspects, including paragraph complexity, sentence-level diversity in length, punctuation marks and "popular words."

First Japan-US-Philippines security meeting to take place in Tokyo on June 16

Japan will be represented by National Security Secretariat chief Takeo Akiba, the United States will be represented by National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and the Philippines will be represented by National Security Adviser Eduardo Ano, Japanese TV channel reported.

The initiative to create such a format for consultations between the three countries belongs to Japan. Its main goal is to gain the support of the Philippines, which has a territorial dispute with China in the South China Sea, which in turn will be a factor in deterring China.

Japan will also hold a bilateral security meeting with the United States to discuss, among other things, issues related to Japanese citizens forcibly detained in North Korea since 1970-1980.

Honduras ready to join BRICS' new development bank

Honduras has issued a formal request to join the BRICS' New Development Bank (NDB), the office of President Xiomara Castro tweeted on Saturday.

The step came as Castro met the bank’s President Dilma Rousseff during her six-day visit to China. The NDB is based in the Chinese city of Shanghai.

The Saturday developments come a week after Rousseff told Argentine Economy Minister Sergio Massa that the NDB’s board of directors formally authorized a vote on his country’s admission to the bank, which is due to be announced at its next meeting, scheduled for August.

During a BRICS summit in June 2022, member states pledged to enhance the NDB, following the successful admission of Bangladesh, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Uruguay in September 2021.

Scott Ritter: Ukrainian counteroffensive runs into defensive wall

💬 "The sad truth of the matter is that there are no NATO forces capable of successfully executing the offensive tasks that have been assigned to Ukraine. No one doubts the courage and commitment of the Ukrainian forces which have been thrown against Colonel General Romanchuk’s defensive barrier. But courage and commitment cannot overcome the reality that NATO lacks the ability, both in terms of equipment and doctrine, to successfully defeat Russia in a force-on-force confrontation, especially one which has Russia playing to its doctrinal strength (defensive operations) while NATO seeks to do something (an assault against prepared defenses) that it has no experience in doing," Scott Ritter, a former United Nations weapons inspector and retired US Marine Corps intelligence officer, wrote in his article for Sputnik

Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline unlikely to launch soon after Ukrainian attack

On Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said that a Ukrainian sabotage group had blown up the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline in the Kharkov Region, adding that there are casualties among the civilian population.

The realistic prospect of the ammonia pipeline restoration and launch has been pushed back for a very long time," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershininsaid following talks at the UN headquarters in Geneva. The diplomat called the attack yet another example of Kiev's "unreasonable, irrational and criminal" policies.

The official said that exports of ammonia exports from Togliatti to Ukrainian ports were crucially important for Africa, Asia and South America, adding that the international community should not ignore the incident.
