On Sunday, the OceanGate Expeditions Titan submersible went missing during an expedition to the Titanic wreckage in an area about 900 miles east of Cape Cod in the Atlantic, at a depth of approximately 13,000 feet. The submarine has a capacity to carry five people and has oxygen supply for 96 hours.

Ancient Nordic board game piece 'captured' during Norwegian city's sewer repairs

A soapstone token inscribed with the runic word "Siggsifr" has been discovered during repairs to a sewer pipe in Trondheim, Norway.

The token was found between wooden planks, possibly part of a medieval street, and a layer of coal dating from between AD 1030 and 1180. Although ancient gaming pieces are common, runic innoscriptions are rare. The Vikings had a passion for board games, with tafl being a popular game played on checkered game boards with pieces representing armies.

The token may have served as a king piece in a game, and is only the third item of its kind with runic innoscriptions to have been found in the city.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense (MoD) has for the first time published documents shedding light on the first days of the Great Patriotic War. The materials, available on the Telegram channel of Russia’s MoD, were released timed for the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow.

⚡️ OceanGate Inc. released a statement announcing that they believe the crew of their Titan tourist submarine destined for the Titanic shipwreck is dead at sea, following a days-long search effort for the vessel.

"We now believe that our CEO Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet, have sadly been lost," the statement said. "Our hearts are with these five souls and every member of their families during this tragic time."

"The strike came at around five in the morning, when there was no one around, only the bridge was damaged,” military analyst Alexey Leonkov told Sputnik, pointing out that it was enough to follow the reaction to this provocation not only on social media networks, but in the Western media. Right after the strike on the bridge was reported by bystanders, footage from the scene appeared in the Western media, which already prepared stories.

"A concerted sabotage effort... a concerted information campaign. This is what we are seeing right now. So it's a provocation, yes," the analyst said.

"I think that, most likely, a French multiple rocket launcher, an analogue of HIMARS, was used," said Alexey Leonov.

The damage to the Chongar Bridge can easily be fixed, the military expert said.

All new Russian navy frigates, corvettes set to deploy Zircon missiles in 2023

All under-construction and new frigates and corvettes will be armed with Zircon hypersonic missiles, Admiral Nikolay Yevmenov, the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, said at the International Maritime Defense Show in Kronstadt.

"The frigates currently under construction, as well as those planned for future construction, will be armed with Zircon missiles. The corvettes will also be equipped with this advanced weaponry," he told Sputnik.

Admiral Yevmenov emphasized that this decision does not mean that the Russian Navy will abandon the use of the reliable “Onyx” and “Kalibr” cruise missiles. These missile systems have proven their high reliability in various scenarios.

Cash-strapped Europe still paying to arm Ukraine for proxy conflict

Europe is spending ever more on arming Ukraine — while its populations become increasingly impoverished.

The major concern is that "Europe is preparing itself too, for a long war with Russia," Brussels-based journalist Elijah J Magnier told Sputnik. "It means Europe is doubling down, is not facing the reality that the Ukrainians are losing, that at the end of the day, every war is solved only around the table."

"When we hear the Americans saying: 'we will send F-16s', capable of carrying nuclear bombs, or we going to give Ukraine weapons or ammunition with depleted uranium, it seems that what has been done so far by the 50 Western nations and their allies meeting in Ramstein in Germany, has not been enough to drag Russia into a wider-scale war."
