Ancient Nordic board game piece 'captured' during Norwegian city's sewer repairs
A soapstone token inscribed with the runic word "Siggsifr" has been discovered during repairs to a sewer pipe in Trondheim, Norway.
The token was found between wooden planks, possibly part of a medieval street, and a layer of coal dating from between AD 1030 and 1180. Although ancient gaming pieces are common, runic innoscriptions are rare. The Vikings had a passion for board games, with tafl being a popular game played on checkered game boards with pieces representing armies.
The token may have served as a king piece in a game, and is only the third item of its kind with runic innoscriptions to have been found in the city.

"The strike came at around five in the morning, when there was no one around, only the bridge was damaged,” military analyst Alexey Leonkov told Sputnik, pointing out that it was enough to follow the reaction to this provocation not only on social media networks, but in the Western media. Right after the strike on the bridge was reported by bystanders, footage from the scene appeared in the Western media, which already prepared stories.
"A concerted sabotage effort... a concerted information campaign. This is what we are seeing right now. So it's a provocation, yes," the analyst said.
"I think that, most likely, a French multiple rocket launcher, an analogue of HIMARS, was used," said Alexey Leonov.

All new Russian navy frigates, corvettes set to deploy Zircon missiles in 2023
All under-construction and new frigates and corvettes will be armed with Zircon hypersonic missiles, Admiral Nikolay Yevmenov, the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, said at the International Maritime Defense Show in Kronstadt.
"The frigates currently under construction, as well as those planned for future construction, will be armed with Zircon missiles. The corvettes will also be equipped with this advanced weaponry," he told Sputnik.
Admiral Yevmenov emphasized that this decision does not mean that the Russian Navy will abandon the use of the reliable “Onyx” and “Kalibr” cruise missiles. These missile systems have proven their high reliability in various scenarios.
