Ukraine's strike on chongar bridge on border with Crimea a diversionary tactic - military analyst
"The strike came at around five in the morning, when there was no one around, only the bridge was damaged,” military analyst Alexey Leonkov told Sputnik, pointing out that it was enough to follow the reaction to this provocation not only on social media networks, but in the Western media. Right after the strike on the bridge was reported by bystanders, footage from the scene appeared in the Western media, which already prepared stories.
"A concerted sabotage effort... a concerted information campaign. This is what we are seeing right now. So it's a provocation, yes," the analyst said.
"I think that, most likely, a French multiple rocket launcher, an analogue of HIMARS, was used," said Alexey Leonov.
The damage to the Chongar Bridge can easily be fixed, the military expert said.

All new Russian navy frigates, corvettes set to deploy Zircon missiles in 2023
All under-construction and new frigates and corvettes will be armed with Zircon hypersonic missiles, Admiral Nikolay Yevmenov, the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, said at the International Maritime Defense Show in Kronstadt.
"The frigates currently under construction, as well as those planned for future construction, will be armed with Zircon missiles. The corvettes will also be equipped with this advanced weaponry," he told Sputnik.
Admiral Yevmenov emphasized that this decision does not mean that the Russian Navy will abandon the use of the reliable “Onyx” and “Kalibr” cruise missiles. These missile systems have proven their high reliability in various scenarios.

What’s Known So Far About the Titan Submersible?
🔹US Coast Guard has confirmed the deaths of all five passengers
🔹Remains unclear whether the Titan submersible imploded at the exact moment communication was lost with the vessel
🔹Two debris sites were detected by officials, a field which sits 1,600 feet from the bow of the RMS Titanic
🔹Earlier reports of sounds heard at 30-minute intervals ‘appear’ to have no connection to the Titan implosion
🔹Secret US naval system detected the Titan implosion same day the vessel went missing
‘[This is an] incredibly complex case and we’re still working to develop the details for the timeline involved with this casualty and the response,’ USCG Rear. Admiral John Mauger said Thursday.

Macron's bid to join BRICS Summit Signals Rift Within 7 - observer
"He is on a limb and what it shows is there is a fracture in the G7 and Western-led alliance and each of them including France, Germany…and other nations are looking forward to escape. In any case, the idea that France is knocking at the door to attend the BRICS summit is very important," Koffi Kouakou, a senior research fellow at the University of Johannesburg’s Centre for Africa-China Studies said to Sputnik.
As the world changes, BRICS is becoming more and more important globally, Kouakou observed. The bloc accounts for over 40% of global GDP and more than a half of the world's population. At least a dozen regional heavyweights representing the Arab world and the Global South have announced bids to join the five-nation group, which Kouakou said is united by its vision of a multipolar world, as opposed to the US-promoted "rules-based order."

Cash-strapped Europe still paying to arm Ukraine for proxy conflict
Europe is spending ever more on arming Ukraine — while its populations become increasingly impoverished.
The major concern is that "Europe is preparing itself too, for a long war with Russia," Brussels-based journalist Elijah J Magnier told Sputnik. "It means Europe is doubling down, is not facing the reality that the Ukrainians are losing, that at the end of the day, every war is solved only around the table."
"When we hear the Americans saying: 'we will send F-16s', capable of carrying nuclear bombs, or we going to give Ukraine weapons or ammunition with depleted uranium, it seems that what has been done so far by the 50 Western nations and their allies meeting in Ramstein in Germany, has not been enough to drag Russia into a wider-scale war."

Mercury unveiled: Probe's close encounter captures planet's stunning, hidden treasures
The BepiColombo mission, a joint project between the European Space Agency and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency to explore the secrets of Mercury, has produced impressive new images from its third gravity-assisted flyby of the planet.
The photos reveal a newly discovered, 218-kilometer-wide crater with "dark low-reflectance material" that may be remnants of Mercury's ancient carbon-rich crust, submerged in smooth lava indicating the planet's history of volcanic activity.
Another image shows a lobate scarp, a tectonic feature that resulted from the planet's cooling and shrinking over time. Researchers will use data from the images to learn more about the planet's tectonic history, cooling process, and mineral composition. The mission's next flyby is scheduled for September 2024.

🇷🇺🇺🇸 'Crazy initiative': Antonov slams US Senators' 'absurd' claims about nuclear strike on Ukraine
💬 "Speculations about Russia's possible use of tactical nuclear weapons are absurd. The provocative and short-sighted rhetoric of US lawmakers only contributes to the escalation of tensions and increases the risk of the situation sliding to an even more dangerous line," Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov said in a statement shared among media.
The ambassador suggested that these speculations serve to prepare the world community for a false-flag provocation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant by sliding a "dirty bomb" there and blaming it on Russia.
Earlier Thursday, US Senator Lindsey Graham said the lawmakers were introducing a resolution to consider the use of a nuclear weapon by Russia in Ukraine as an attack on the NATO alliance.

🇯🇵 Japan piqued as Biden claims credit for Tokyo's ramped up defense costs
After Joe Biden claimed credit for convincing Tokyo to make that move when appearing at an event in California, Japan was prompted to “make its position known” to the US. Hirokazu Matsuno, Chief Cabinet Secretary, said the words of POTUS “could be misleading”.
The government of Japanese PM Fumio Kishida has approved a spate of policy documents which envisage doubling the nation's defense expenditures within the next five years. And Joe Biden recently made no bones about taking credit for that.
💬 “You know, Japan hasn’t increased its military budget for a long, long time. But guess what? I met with the chairman — the president — the vice — excuse me, the leader of Japan for, I guess, on three different occasions, including in Hiroshima. And… I convinced him, and he convinced himself, that he had to do something different,” Biden said at a campaign reception in California on June 20.
