🇺🇸🇵🇸🇮🇱 Thousands of people have gathered at the National Mall in Washington DC to protest against the military activities of Israel in the Gaza Strip, a Sputnik correspondent reported from the scene on Friday.
Several thousand protesters, are currently gathering on the lawn just blocks away from the Capitol building where US President Joe Biden sent a request earlier in the day asking for more than $14 billion in support for Israel.
The protest kicked off at noon, however, more and more people are joining the crowd.
At the beginning of the lawn, there are hundreds of flowers as a symbolic memorial honoring the victims. Many are holding flags and banners saying "Ceasefire Now", "Free Gaza, "and "Stop Israel."
The protest is peaceful with lots of local and international media covering it.

🇳🇴💸 European hospitality? Norway joins list of Nations ready to pay Ukrainian refugees to go home
Norway has introduced a scheme designed to get some of the roughly 51,000+ Ukrainian refugees living in the country to go home, offering cash payments of nearly €1,500 to Ukrainian nationals willing to leave the Kingdom.
The scheme, whose details have appeared on the cabinet of ministers’ website, promises 17,500 Norwegian krone (€1,495) to persons “granted collective protection or residence on the grounds of strong humanitarian considerations” who decide to return home.
Applicants for the payment are asked to outline their travel itinerary, and provide copies of tickets for plane, train, bus or other means of transportation, or fill out a self-declaration form if a private vehicle is used.

Mariupol experiencing rebirth under Russian rule
Sputnik correspondent Russell Bentley (@TXDPR) recently visited Mariupol for the first time since March 2022, when the battle for the city was in full swing. Here are some of his impressions on how the city is being resurrected from the ruins.
“Thousands of families now have new, modern apartments to live in, schools, hospitals, churches, government buildings and social centers have been repaired or in most cases built anew from the ground up. The Azovstal steel plant that was owned by the Ukrainian billionaire Renat Akhmetov, which was the worst polluter of Mariupol and the Azov Sea, will be (mostly) torn down with the exception of a small part which will be turned into a museum to commemorate the heroes who fought and died liberating Mariupol from eight years of occupation by the Nazis of the 21st century. The rest of the plant territory will be turned into seaside parks and boardwalks, where nature and beauty will return to reclaim what was once a toxic and grimy industrial zone and horrific battlefield.”

🇺🇸 US House Republicans ousted Congressman Jim Jordan as the party’s nominee for speaker after losing the support of the conference during a secret ballot, Congressman Kevin McCarthy stated on Friday.
"Unfortunately, Jim is no longer going to be the nominee," McCarthy said after the internal vote. "We’ll have to go back to the drawing board."
Earlier on Friday, Jordan failed to secure enough votes to become speaker after three floor votes.
House Republicans will reportedly hold a candidate forum on Monday, with the intention of holding another floor vote on Tuesday.

🇬🇧 UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak held separate meetings with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi in Cairo to discuss the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, 10 Downing Street said on Friday.
"The leaders agreed on the need for all parties to take steps to protect civilians, and civilian infrastructure, and minimize the loss of innocent lives. They condemned Hamas’ terrorism and stressed that Hamas do not represent the Palestinian people," Sunak's office said after his meeting with Abbas.
At the meeting with the Egyptian president, the British prime minister welcomed Egypt' efforts to reopen the Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip and said London "was committed to playing its part in helping the civilians of Gaza and alleviating the dire humanitarian situation there," his office said in a separate statement, recalling a recent 10 million pound ($12 million) humanitarian pledge for the region by London.
