🇵🇸🇮🇱 Netanyahu’s dirty little secret: Why did Israeli PM once help prop up Hamas?
The violence in Israel, Gaza and the West Bank is rapidly shaping up to become one of the bloodiest-ever flashpoints in the 75-year-old Palestinian-Israeli crisis’s history, with Hamas’ surprise October 7 invasion blamed for triggering the carnage. But one little-talked about aspect of the conflict is the Israeli government and Benjamin Netanyahu’s personal role in supporting Hamas over the years.
A recent article in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz documents some of the ways Netanyahu has materially supported the armed group during his over 16 years as Israeli prime minister, including by reportedly allowing untraceable cash contributions from outside, and allowing Hamas leaders to operate freely outside the country, even as Israel keeps a tight grip on the rest of Gaza, which has been described as the world’s largest concentration camp.
In effect, Hamas and the Israeli government can be said to have had a symbiotic relationship aimed at fomenting perpetual conflict and discrediting the Palestinian cause in the eyes of the West.

🇺🇸🇮🇱 “Ten thousand people have been killed in Gaza, half of them children. The Pope’s calling for a ceasefire, the UN has called for it. I’m just asking you -” international human rights lawyer Dan Kovalik was abruptly cut off by security guards on Sunday before he could finish his question to US Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA).
Earlier this month, the progressive freshman senator broke with his colleagues, issuing a statement that “now is not the time to talk about a ceasefire” between Israel and Hamas, a Palestinian militant party that governs the Gaza Strip. “We can talk about a ceasefire after Hamas is neutralized,” he added.
