Portland has long been the scene of unrest. In 2021, there have been more than 1,000 shootings, protests, violent street clashes and a police personnel crisis.

At least 100 self-proclaimed anarchists rampaged through Portland on October 12 and caused $ 500,000 in damage, but police remained inactive due to a new state law that restricts law enforcement responses to riots.

The new law prohibits police from using crowd control techniques such as pepper spray or tear gas. Instead, law enforcement agencies are encouraged to rely on follow-up investigations to bring the rioters to justice

🎤 Joe Biden is set to attend a CNN town hall in Baltimore on Thursday, where he will answer questions about his legislative agenda.

Topics such as the pandemic recovery efforts, immigration, and Afghanistan withdrawal may also come up.

The town hall will air at 8 p.m. ET and will last about 90 minutes. CNN anchor Anderson Cooper will moderate the event, per the network.

🦠 The CDC is mulling implementing a “test-to-stay” programme for students who could have been exposed to COVID-19 in schools, CNN reports.

According to the programme, such students wouldn’t have to quarantine at home and could attend classes in person, as long as they test negative for the coronavirus and don’t have symptoms.
