Liberating the town of Maryinka in the DPR represents a major moral victory for the Russian forces, Scott Ritter, a former US Marine Corps intelligence officer and UN weapons inspector, told Sputnik.
He also called Maryinka’s liberation “part of the concerted effort being undertaken by the Russian military to create a situation for the civilians of Donetsk, where they can live in peace without the fear of the daily bombardment that has killed so many innocent civilians, including children.”
On Monday, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that Russian troops had fully freed Maryinka, something that he stressed reduces the defense capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and gives Russia additional opportunities for further actions.

The chief physician of the Shuhadaa al-Aqsa hospital in the Gaza Strip, Iyad Abu Zaher, is a Russian citizen. Despite the possibility of evacuation, he decided to stay with his patients.

▪️Macer Gifford, an ex-UK officer with experience in Afghanistan and as a mercenary with Iraqi Kurdish troops, arrived in Ukraine in 2022 (see photo 1).
▪️He is now serving as a part of 131st Recon Battalion known as Vidmak (translated as “the witcher" from Ukrainian). His mercenary comrade Ethan Hertweck from California was eliminated by Russian forces a few weeks ago (photo 2).
▪️Gifford frequently asks for donations, and the ex-UK officer has even boasted that he managed to collect large sums from the British for his battalion (photo 3). The UK citizen even raised money for one of the units of the Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate (photo 4).
▪️After meeting with Ukrainian ex-President Poroshenko, Gifford claimed credit for having the battalion supplied with a significant amount of resources (see photo 5).
