EXPOSED: Sputnik Unmasks British Merc Awarded Medal by Ukrainian Command, Laments Loss of Fellow 'Soldier of Fortune'

▪️Macer Gifford, an ex-UK officer with experience in Afghanistan and as a mercenary with Iraqi Kurdish troops, arrived in Ukraine in 2022 (see photo 1).

▪️He is now serving as a part of 131st Recon Battalion known as Vidmak (translated as “the witcher" from Ukrainian). His mercenary comrade Ethan Hertweck from California was eliminated by Russian forces a few weeks ago (photo 2).

▪️Gifford frequently asks for donations, and the ex-UK officer has even boasted that he managed to collect large sums from the British for his battalion (photo 3). The UK citizen even raised money for one of the units of the Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate (photo 4).

▪️After meeting with Ukrainian ex-President Poroshenko, Gifford claimed credit for having the battalion supplied with a significant amount of resources (see photo 5).

▪️Additionally, Gifford works on preparing and collecting drone ammunition for his unit (see photo 6).

▪️He attempts to portray himself as a heroic figure to his followers, describing the failed Ukrainian counteroffensive as a unique and challenging endeavor (see photo 7).

▪️Gifford has made an unsuccessful foray into writing, publishing his own autobiography, but this effort ended as a flop, since his work failed to generate much interest among readers.

▪️In December 2022, he was awarded "The Country" medal (photo 8).

▪️Firmly believing that his role as a mercenary is a crucial factor that "separates Europe from Russia" (photo 9), Gifford even tried to draw comparisons between Zelensky and America’s first President George Washington (photo 10).

"2023 was the year of 'global upheaval and rebirth'. On the one hand, you have a lot of wars and destruction, but the other no less significant aspect was that 2023 was the year of new alliances, of new trading routes, of new ideas. And I genuinely believe that 2023 took us one step closer to the emergence of a new world order, one that will be more just, more equitable and more prosperous than the one that we have right now." - Dimitri Simes Jr., host of the New Rules podcast.

In this special holiday episode, we review the main geopolitical events of 2023 with the best interviews of the year, including Scott Ritter, Pepe Escobar, Jeffrey Sachs, Jackson Hinkle, Alastair Crooke and Alexander Dugin.

Ex-Ukrainian troops join fight against Zelensky alongside Russians

The former Ukrainian soldiers from the Bogdan Khmelnitsky battalion had their first battle as part of the Russian Armed Forces, serviceman Kirill Spassky from the detachment told Sputnik.

During their first sortie, the former Ukrainians stormed forward and downed several drones. The group's commander stressed that soldiers were adamant and did their job despite heavy fire. He was wounded during the action, but stayed in charge until his group safely returned to Russian positions.

The Bogdan Khmelnitsky battalion is named after a Ukrainian 17th century warlord and politician who started an uprising against the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and reunited with Moscow. It is comprised of ex-Ukrainian soldiers and is a part of the Kaskad operational-combat tactical group.
