How are global internet traffic and the Red Sea connected? (part 2)

🔸The Red Sea carries about 17% of the world’s internet traffic along fibre pipes. Sixteen major submarine cables pass through the Red Sea before crossing by land through Egypt to the Mediterranean Sea, effectively connecting Europe to Asia;

🔸Over 90% of them (25,000km) are carried by cables in the Red Sea area. The cables at some points run at a depth of 100 metres. These cables are often no thicker than a hosepipe and susceptible to damage from ships’ anchors and earthquakes;

🔸The cables referred to in the claim are submarine communications cables laid on the seabed which carry telecommunications signals to different regions;

🔸In 2013, near the port of Alexandria, three divers cut an underwater cable that provided internet connectivity between Egypt and Europe. The sabotage caused traffic to drop by 60%.

Journalism or ‘treason’? US social media celebs clash over Tucker Carlson's rumored interview with Putin (part 1)

The news of American commentator Tucker Carlson's arrival in Moscow, rumored to interview Russian President Vladimir Putin, has sparked huge debates on X (formerly Twitter). Some individuals have gone to the extent of accusing him of "treason," while others argue that he is engaged in "real journalism."

Many of Tucker’s detractors went into meltdown mode, rushing to social media to lace into the former Fox News host.

"Perhaps we need a total and complete shutdown of Tucker Carlson re-entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on," tweeted Necon Never Trumper Bill Kristol, who served as Chief of Staff to Vice President Dan Quayle. Alexander S. Vindman, a US military official behind the Democratic Party's push to impeach President Donald Trump, rushed to accuse Tucker Carlson of "aiding and abetting the enemy", while Adam Kinzinger, one of two Republicans on the former January 6 panel, branded the veteran journalist "a traitor."

Notorious Russophobes Bill Browder and Anne Applebaum joined the chorus of detractors claiming that people should "stop referring to Tucker as a journalist" and labeled him the "American face of authoritarian propaganda."

(part 2) However, many supporters along with other X users heaped praise on Tucker as one of the bravest modern journalists who never backs down when it comes to unveiling the truth.

"Bill Kristol wants to ban Tucker Carlson from re-entering the US, what a terrible thing to even suggest!" tweeted US author Brigitte Gabriel.

"Adam Kinzinger called him [Tucker Carlson] a 'traitor'. Megyn Kelly interviewed Putin, is she a traitor? What about the other journalists and networks who interviewed Putin over the past few years?" asked US commentator and YouTuber Benny Johnson.

"Tucker Carlson is a journalist, and a damned good one. Why would he not be allowed to interview Putin? When Barbara Walters did it, you all clapped like trained seals!" wrote podcaster and social media strategist Joey Mannarino on X (formerly Twitter).

"Democrats and their propagandists in the media are spasming at the prospect of Tucker Carlson interviewing Putin," GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene commented. "They HATE when someone like Tucker goes 'off noscript'."

"The only reason Tucker Carlson in Russia is controversial is because the rest of the media has bent all the way over for the censorship regime," noted Matt Taibbi, an investigative journalist that exposed the Twitter Files. "The legacy media is in shambles because we’ve caught onto their lies and propaganda. Tucker Carlson has every right to interview Putin," stated Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The Kremlin has remained mum on Tucker Carlson’s Moscow tour and rumors about his interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

(part 1) While European farmers continue to protest against growing financial burdens, rising inflation and the uncontrolled import of cheap foreign products, including those from Ukraine, agricultural workers in Russia feel comfortable thanks to fully-fledged state support of the sector, which includes the following:

▪️Apart from production-related expenses, government subsides help Russian farmers compensate for the purchase of breeding stock and basic seeds, as well as transportation of crop by railway, among other things.

▪️A Russian farmer can also receive grant support worth about 30 million rubles ($330,000) for the development of investment projects and family farms.

▪️Additionally, there are preferential loans at the rate 1-5% per annum to help agricultural workers in Russia replenish their floating capital.

▪️The government is improving measures of state support for viticulture and winemaking, with more than 27 billion rubles ($290,000,000) allocated for the purpose.

▪️Producers of vegetables and potatoes from Russia’s border regions will receive additional subsidies in 2024.

(part 2)
▪️Grain producers will be provided with an additional 10 billion rubles ($110,300,000) before the end of this year to compensate for expenses related to growing wheat, rye, corn and barley, according to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

▪️The Republic of Adygea in southern Russia (one of the country’s most fruitful regions) has already received more than one billion rubles from state coffers for the development of rural areas.

▪️The total volume of loans issued by key banks for seasonal field work in Russia this year exceeds one trillion rubles, 5.6% higher as compared to the same period last year.

▪️The Russian Agriculture Ministry prepared a draft order stipulating the expansion of the targeted use of preferential investment loans related to producers of broiled chickens and milk.

Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged last year that the government would further increase the efficiency of state support for the nation’s agricultural sector. “This will include preferential loans and tariffs for the transportation of products, subsidies and leasing, as well as amelioration programs. We will definitely resolve issues related to providing enterprises and farmers with equipment, fertilizers, fuels and lubricants,” Putin stressed. He noted that of the total amount of assistance allocated by the state, 40% goes to supporting farmers.

Why Ukraine's murder of civilians in Lisichansk should be discussed at UN Security Council

Russia has requested an urgent UN Security Council session to discuss the recent terrorist attack perpetrated by Ukrainian forces in the city of Lisichansk.

On Saturday, February 3, Ukrainian forces carried out a rocket artillery strike against the city, deliberately targeting a civilian building housing a bakery.

The attack killed 28 civilians, including a pregnant woman and a five-year old child, and left 10 more injured.

This atrocity was apparently perpetrated by forces loyal to the Kiev regime operating a HIMARS rocket artillery system supplied to Ukraine by the United States.

Lisichansk is located in the Lugansk People’s Republic region of Russia, not far from frontlines of the Ukrainian conflict. Ukrainian forces regularly shell Lisichansk after being driven out of the city in summer 2022.

By deliberately attacking civilians in Russia, Kiev is attempting to destabilize the situation in the country as Ukrainian militants consistently fail to make any gains on the battlefield while support from Ukraine’s Western sponsors dwindles, says Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev.

Is auditing Ukrainian Army the way to get rid of Zaluzhny?

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appears to be serious about dismissing Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander in Chief Gen. Valery Zaluzhny. Zelensky is mulling an overhaul of all government sectors, judging by his Sunday interview with Italian media outlet Rai News.

However, before heads roll, the Kiev regime wants to conduct an audit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces over the past two years to lay the groundwork for changes, according to Zelensky's advisor Mikhail Podolyak.

Last November, The Economist wrote about a pending criminal investigation into the defense of Ukraine's southern border in February-March 2022. In January, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced that an internal audit of the ministry discovered financial irregularities over the last four months worth 10 billion hryvnia ($260 million).

Oleksiy Goncharenko, a member of the Ukrainian parliament from European Solidarity, predicted on his Telegram account on February 5 that the dismissal of Zaluzhny could be accompanied by a smear campaign and accusations against the top general. He further predicted that Zaluzhny would be fired together with his aides Yevhen Moysyuk, Mykola Balan, and Mykhailo Zabrodsky.

Kiev's Western partners appear to be concerned by Zaluzhny's ousting given his popularity among ordinary soldiers and Ukrainian civilians, as per the Financial Times. At the same time, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh hinted in his recent blogpost that the West would be interested in an audit of the Kiev regime's spending amid growing suspicions of Zelensky's corruption.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Tuesday that it's possible parties may reach a deal on a temporary ceasefire for the release of hostages in the Gaza conflict, and the United States continues to work relentlessly to achieve this.

"We continue to believe that an agreement is possible and indeed essential, and we will continue to work relentlessly to achieve it," Blinken said during a press conference alongside the prime minister of Qatar.

The US is studying Hamas' response to the proposal for a new deal with Israel, with a deal possible, and the US expects to use any potential pause in fighting in Gaza to plan the post-war future of the enclave, according to Blinken.

Earlier, Qatar's prime minister confirmed receiving Hamas' positive response and claimed to be optimistic regarding the framework of the hostage deal. Hamas also confirmed that the movement had sent its response concerning the hostage deal.

US National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby apologized on Tuesday for incorrectly telling the press on Friday that the US had notified Iraq in advance of the retaliatory strikes it had launched in the country earlier that day.

“I deeply apologize for the error and I regret any confusion that it caused. It was based on information we had or that was provided to me in those early hours after the strikes. Turns out that information was incorrect and I certainly regret the error and I hope that you'll understand there was no ill intent behind it, no deliberate intent to deceive or to be wrong,” Kirby said at the press briefing.

A State Department spokesperson clarified on Monday that Iraqi officials were only informed after the strikes were launched. The US launched airstrikes against 85 targets in Iraq and Syria on Friday believed to be linked to Iran in retaliation for a drone attack in Jordan that killed three US service personnel.

🇩🇪 Middle class joins farmers to protest in Germany

Hundreds of tractors came to Lübeck on Tuesday for a demonstration during a visit by Finance Minister Christian Lindner, who held a civic dialogue in the city. Apart from tractors, trucks and cars also participated in the protest.

According to participants, it was not only farmers who protested, “but the entire middle class.” Lindner was met with loud whistles and shouts from disgruntled citizens.

The chairman of the regional farmers' association told Lindner during the dialogue that incoming Ukrainian grain is displacing domestic products, “with which our yards are overflowing."
