The US State Department declined to comment on the Ukrainian government's decision to dismiss Valery Zaluzhny from his commander-in-chief post, but added that it is Ukraine's sovereign decision.
Meanwhile, Politico reported earlier in the day that one the possible reason for Zaluzhny’s removal was disagreements with the United States over how to conduct last year’s counteroffensive.

Hur added that no criminal charges were warranted in the matter.
The White House, in an attached response, said that it 'wholeheartedly agrees' with Hur's decision not to pursue charges.

How NATO’s ‘Partnership for Peace’ pact with Ukraine sowed seeds for proxy conflict with Russia.
Thursday is the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s entry in the ‘Partnership for Peace’ program, a NATO initiative ostensibly designed to foster ‘trust and cooperation’ between former Soviet bloc nations and the Western alliance. In Ukraine’s case, the PfP was one of an extensive series of steps taken by the West to try to prevent Russia’s resurgence as a great power.
Ukraine has no “strategic value” as far as the defense of Europe or the United States are concerned, retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Earl Rasmussen stressed, with its only value being to pursue the centuries-old imperative of “weaken[ing] Russia as a nation state.”

“Today a Ukraine within NATO would mean that NATO forces could be placed near many key sites within Russia and Russia would have very limited time to respond to missile strikes toward Moscow and the Russian heartland,” Mikael Valtersson, a former officer of the Swedish Armed Forces said.

🇷🇺 🌍 Russian-African Relations: Moscow highlights key difference with the West
🇲🇱 🇧🇫 🇳🇪 Moscow is strengthening its relations with Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger. These countries see in Russia, among other things, a chance to break free from the "pseudo-domination" of the West and to overcome neocolonial dependency.
As for the so-called "pro-Russian belt" on the continent cited by journalists, Zakharova clarified that the countries in question had already chosen their name - the Sahel Alliance - and presented it to the international community.

⚡️ Special Counsel in the probe investigating US President Joe Biden's mishandling of classified materials, Robert Hur, concluded that Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified materials but recommended no criminal charges against him, a Justice Department…
US President Joe Biden suffered from lapses in memory during the course of an investigation into his mishandling of classified documents, US Special Counsel Robert Hur said on Thursday in his final report on Biden’s mishandling of classified documents.
Biden also forgot when his term as vice president began, the report said.
Moreover, Biden could not remember “within several years” when his son Beau died, the report said.
Biden likely would have presented himself as a well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory if the matter were brought to a jury trial, the report said.
Biden said in a statement on the report that he cooperated with the probe, which he characterized as exhaustive.

US journalist Tucker Carlson met in Russia with former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden and former junior Senate aide Tara Reade, Semafor news agency reported.
According to the report on Thursday, Carlson did not interview Snowden for the video program he is producing while visiting Russia.
However, Carlson filmed an interview with Reade, who moved to Russia for fear for her safety after accusing President Joe Biden of sexual assault, the report added.
Carlson arrived in Russia last week to interview President Vladimir Putin. Carlson explained he decided to conduct the interview out of journalistic duty and to inform Americans about the realities of the conflict in Ukraine.

The frenzied response to Tucker Carlson’s interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin demonstrates the collapse of the West’s facade of democracy and freedom of speech, according to journalist Afshin Rattansi who appeared on Sputnik’s Fault Lines program Thursday.
Host Jamarl Thomas agreed, noting that Carlson’s interview with Putin is being dismissed as “propaganda” before anyone has even seen it. The stigma surrounding Carlson and the Russian leader is being elevated to such an extent that Americans are being discouraged from partaking in the free discussion necessary for a functioning democracy.

“It's never been as bad,” said the former BBC reporter and host of RT’s “Going Underground.” “It's never been as bad as this during Joe McCarthy... Now, if you're Julian Assange, obviously you get tortured in London,” said Rattansi, referring to the Wikileaks journalist who’s been effectively imprisoned in London for more than a decade for revealing US war crimes.

Freedom depends on citizens’ ability to hear and consider all points of view, but elites stifle this right when they undermine a free exchange of ideas.

“What does it say on the masthead of Amazon.com [owner] Jeff Bezos' newspaper over there – The Washington Post – ‘Democracy Dies in Darkness?’” asked Rattansi. “I mean, clearly there's no democracy in the United States then, because we haven't even heard the interview. We haven't even watched the interview yet and every network in the United States is telling people to lock up their children in case they see this interview on television.”

The parents of the new commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian troops, Oleksandr Syrsky, reportedly live in the Russian Federation. They take part in the Immortal Regiment worldwide civil event every year (photo 1,2), marching with a portrait of a fallen relative which fought against the Nazis whose supporters now rule Ukraine, RT reported.
Syrsky’s grandfather died in the Great Patriotic War, according to the media.
The new commander-in-chief moved to Ukraine in the 1980s, media says, while his relatives live in Vladimir, Russia. Whether he is in touch with his family now is unknown.
Syrsky's father is a former military man. His mother sings in a choir and runs a summer cottage. Judging by his mother's page on social networks, she supports Russia (photos 3,4) and posts photos at an Eternal Flame monument (photo 5).
Anton Syrsky, the eldest son of the new commander-in-chief, lives in Sydney and likes to party, according to information and photos from his page on the "VKontakte" social media (photo 6, right).
