The Pentagon is looking for new partners in Africa to deploy troops that were based in Niger and Chad but have been withdrawn from there. Charles Brown, head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is now in Botswana, saying Monday that a number of countries on the…
US President Joe Biden designated Kenya as a major non-NATO ally of the United States, according to a memorandum published by the White House.

"By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including section 517 of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, as amended… I hereby designate Kenya as a Major Non-NATO Ally of the United States," the memorandum said.

In May, Biden announced his intention to designate Kenya as a major non-NATO ally during Kenyan President William Ruto’s visit to Washington.

In April, the US announced the withdrawal of troops from Chad and Niger following the demands of the governments.

According to a Pentagon source quoted by the Associated Press, the US will have to adapt to the stance adopted by African countries "and not impose external Western ideals."

Chad was under French colonial rule from 1900 to 1960. After the Sahelian nation gained independence, France continued interfering in its internal affairs. The US began increasing its military presence in Chad and elsewhere in Africa after the NATO invasion of Libya in 2011. However, neither French nor American troops have been able to reduce the terrorist threat in the Sahel, leading regional governments to question their deployment.

The military pullout from Niger was initiated in March after a Nigerien military spokesperson said the country's transitional government, which took power in July 2023, had terminated the military agreement with the US with immediate effect, citing the interests of the Nigerien people.

The reaction of the UN secretariat to Ukraine's terrorist attack on Russia’s Sevastopol reflects their double standards, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzia said.

“This is an illustration of bias and hypocrisy in the UN Secretariat trying to shy away from calling a spade a spade. The crimes committed by the Kiev regime are invisible and NATO members are participants in these crimes," Nebenzia told reporters.

Earlier, Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for the UN Secretary General in an interview to Sputnik commented on the shelling of Sevastopol by Ukraine saying that civilian casualties in the course of hostilities were unacceptable, but did not condemn the Kiev regime's crime.

The Russian diplomat added that Ukraine's deadly strike on Sevastopol will be discussed during a UN Security Council meeting in July.

On Sunday, the Ukrainian armed forces attacked Sevastopol, the largest city on the Crimean Peninsula, using US-made ATACMS missiles with cluster warheads. According to the latest data, four civilians were killed and 153 others were injured in the attack, including children.

The United States is set to provide Ukraine with $150 million more in munitions for use against Russia, the Associated Press reported.

The US is expected to unveil the aid package on Tuesday, the report said, citing two US officials.

The package will include munitions for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), which are capable of launching long-range Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) rounds, the report said.

It is unclear whether the package will include ATACMS munitions, but it will not include cluster munitions, the report added.

The package will also include 155mm and 105mm artillery rounds, anti-armor weapons, small arms and grenades, the report said.

The package comes following a Ukrainian strike on Sevastopol on Sunday, which killed four people and injured 153 others, including children. The Kiev regime used US-supplied ATACMS missiles with cluster warheads.

The US’ involvement in the attack is “beyond any doubt,” Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzia emphasized.

Moscow has repeatedly warned NATO countries that by supplying arms to Ukraine, they are both prolonging the conflict and dangerously escalating it.

The West is losing its war against Russia militarily, morally and politically, while "warmongers" keep getting defeated at the ballot box, Slovak Deputy Parliament Speaker Lubos Blaha said.

"Let's face it: the West is losing the war against Russia. Militarily, politically and morally. You don't need to do anything special, just grab some popcorn and watch the warmongers in the West lose, watch their own peoples rebel against them, watch neoliberalism fall to the bottom. Finally," Blaha, who is also a member of the ruling leftist Smer party, wrote on Telegram.

Slovakia is on the right side of history, on the side of peace, patriotism and social justice, the lawmaker added.

Western liberals face a reckoning for "spreading hatred against Russia," with President Emmanuel Macron’s centrists trailing the opposition ahead of the snap elections and Donald Trump leading President Joe Biden in the United States, Blaha highlighted.

"The West is in a severe crisis. Ukrainians are bombing women and children in Crimea with Western weapons. Professional literature calls it murder," the lawmaker emphasized.

The ruling parties in several European states failed to win the recent European Parliament elections. In France, the right-wing National Rally finished well ahead of Macron's centrist coalition. In Germany, the center-left Social Democratic Party (SDP) of Chancellor Olaf Scholz came third after the opposition Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) bloc and the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD).

On Sunday, the Ukrainian armed forces attacked Sevastopol, the largest city on the Crimean Peninsula, using US-supplied ATACMS missiles with cluster warheads, killing four people, including two children, and injuring 153 others.

The plea deal is expected to be finalized on Wednesday and resolve Julian Assange's legal case in the United States, according to CBS News.

The report said US federal prosecutors recommend Assange receive a 5-year prison sentence as part of the plea deal, but he will not be required to spend time in a US prison because he will be credited for the five years he spent in a UK prison fighting his extradition to the United States.

In the United States, Assange faces prosecution under the Espionage Act for obtaining and disclosing classified information that sheds light on numerous war crimes and human rights violations committed by US troops during the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. He initially faced up to 175 years in prison.

UN draft report shows nearly half a million Gazans facing catastrophic levels of food insecurity

According to a draft report from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), which is the United Nations hunger monitoring system. in March and April food deliveries reaching northern Gaza had successfully increased, helping to “avert” what seemed to be an unavoidable famine, but in recent weeks following renewed hostilities the situation has worsened and now a “high risk of famine persists across the whole of the Gaza Strip”. For instance, the report found that half of Gaza’s households have had to sell or trade their clothing for food.

“More than half [of households] also reported that, often, they do not have any food to eat in the house, and over 20% go entire days and nights without eating. The recent trajectory is negative and highly unstable. Should this continue, the improvements seen in April could be rapidly reversed," the report said.

While Israeli forces have reportedly blocked aid deliveries into the famine-stricken region, more than a dozen Palestinians have also been tragically killed by airdrops of aid delivered by multiple nations. Some died by drowning while trying to recover the food deliveries, while others were fatally struck by falling pallets with failed parachutes, according to a UN News report from April.

A famine early warning system based in the US (Fews Net) said it was “possible, if not likely” that a famine in northern Gaza would begin in April, and two UN organizations have said more than 1 million Gazans were “expected to face death and starvation” by mid-July.

🇷🇸 Serbian President Vucic addressed accusations of military transactions with Ukraine Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic dismissed claims made by the Financial Times that Serbia is allegedly selling weapons to Ukraine, stating that the weapons were sold…
🇷🇺🇷🇸 Russia and Serbia are discussing potential security threats related to military supplies, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko told Sputnik, commenting on media reports about the export of Serbian ammunition to Kiev.

"Exchanging assessments of security threats is an integral part of the political dialogue between Russia and Serbia. Of course, this also concerns issues of military supplies," Grushko said.

On Sunday, the Financial Times newspaper reported that Ukraine could have received ammunition from Serbia via third countries worth about 800 million euros ($858 million) since the beginning of the Russian special military operation.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic dismissed the claims made by the Financial Times, stating that the weapons were sold to other countries with which Serbia has contracts. He noted that contracts for the sale of weapons and equipment exist only with Azerbaijan, Cyprus, and the UAE.

The Palestinian movement Hamas is ready to release the two remaining Israeli hostages with Russian citizenship as a priority, but it is necessary to first reach an agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, deputy head of the Hamas politburo Musa Abu Marzouk told Sputnik.

"We have no Russians in the hostages, only Israeli citizens, but most have dual citizenship, Mexican, American, Ukrainian and others. Earlier, when there was an exchange, we released one Russian outside the deal, as a gratitude to President [Russian President Vladimir] Putin for his stance on Palestine," Marzouk noted.

"With Mr. [Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail] Bogdanov we discussed the issue of the Russians [held hostage by Hamas] and we said we are waiting for Israel to agree to a ceasefire, we said that as soon as there is a decision on this, the two Russians will be the first to be released. We are waiting for the fighting on the ground to calm down and to be able to take these people and release them," Marzouk said.

According to Israeli official data, 120 hostages are still being held in the Palestinian enclave, of whom 39 are believed to be dead. Through various operations and humanitarian efforts, 135 hostages have been released from Hamas captivity, a figure that includes dead hostages whose bodies have been removed from the enclave. Among the remaining hostages are two Israelis with Russian citizenship.

Is Netanyahu trying to switch Biden for Trump?

“[US President Joe] Biden is Netanyahu’s lapdog – will do anything he wants,” explained author and journalist Robert Fantina on Sputnik’s Fault Lines. “[But] Netanyahu knows that Trump will do even more if he becomes president again.”

Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a video on his social media accounts, criticizing the White House for allegedly withholding weapon shipments to his country.

“During World War II, Churchill told the United States, ‘Give us the tools, we’ll do the job.’ And I say, give us the tools, and we’ll finish the job a lot faster,” Netanyahu said.

Since October 7, more than 100 military aid transfers have been sent by the United States to Israel, according to the Council on Foreign Relations. The administration of President Joe Biden has also supported Israel on the international stage, vetoing multiple UN Security Council resolutions on behalf of Israel and voting with Israel in the UN General Assembly.

Nevertheless, Netanyahu is willing to criticize his most adamant supporter on the world stage in hope that his possible replacement, Republican candidate and former US President Donald Trump, will be even more supportive.

“[Biden] has said things like Israel’s bombardment has been over the top – he used that expression once. I don’t think Trump would ever say that,” speculated Fantina. “He would say this is a job that needs to be done and these ‘terrorists’ need to be destroyed and wouldn’t put any breaks whatsoever verbally or as far as shipments are concerned to Israel.”

Russia “is going to start taking out these drones” - Michael Maloof commented on US involvement in the Ukrainian terrorist attack on Sevastopol

“The fact that a drone was there providing the intelligence and data, and the use of ATACMS missiles, which requires US participation, clearly shows the escalation by the United States now. Not only to give basically the green light in attacking civilians but also now what we saw in Dagestan, where we saw all of a sudden a rise up of terrorist activities once again in Dagestan,” Retired senior security analyst Michael Maloof told Sputnik. “It has a history of that, but it’s all calculated.”

Maloof predicted that Russia’s first response will be increased missile strikes across Ukraine, followed by more escalations.

“I think [Russian President Vladimir Putin] is going to start taking out these drones. I suspect that this will be his way of responding to the US escalation, by escalating against those instruments used by the United States to help pinpoint targets,” Maloof continued. “If that isn’t sufficient, then I think the bases throughout the Middle East could be potential targets.”

After the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington DC, then-US President George W. Bush pledged to fight against terrorism, wherever it is in the world.

“Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime,” he said.

For decades, the US has at least publicly decried terrorism. That began to change when the US started supporting terrorist groups, including al-Qaeda*, in Syria. Suddenly, “Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists,” became “If you are with us, you are not a terrorist.”

“We clearly see who is behind this. Just last week, the President talked about who targets these technologically complex missiles and who ensures their launches. It’s not the Ukrainians,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said of the attacks in Sevastopol. “You could turn to your colleagues in the media. Simply ask my colleagues, the press secretaries in Europe, and especially in Washington, why their government is killing Russian children.”
