Israel's goal of completely destroying Hamas is unrealistic - Russian FM Lavrov
Russia does not yet see any prospects for ending the bloodshed in the Middle East, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, commenting on the recent deadly attack on the town of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights.
Russia condemns all terrorist actions undertaken by any organization, Lavrov stressed.
According to the Israeli military, 12 young people and children were killed on Saturday in the attack on the Golan Heights. Hezbollah denies involvement in the attack. Despite this, Israeli officials began to announce the imminence of war against Hezbollah and Lebanon.

Russia does not yet see any prospects for ending the bloodshed in the Middle East, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, commenting on the recent deadly attack on the town of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights.
"There are no prospects for ending this bloodshed yet. Israel, through Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu, has repeatedly responded to calls for an immediate ceasefire by saying that it will not stop until it completely destroys Hamas. In my opinion, and many of my colleagues share this point of view, it is an unrealistic task to completely destroy an organization that exists and that has sufficient capabilities and sufficient support, including in the Muslim world," Lavrov told reporters.
Russia condemns all terrorist actions undertaken by any organization, Lavrov stressed.
"Thus, we condemned the Hamas terrorist attack on Israeli civilians on October 7 last year. But Israel's response is unacceptable," he added.

Russia seen as balancing factor in Southeast Asia in light of US' 'brash' actions - Lavrov
Southeast Asian countries recognize Russia's opportunity to act as a stabilizing factor in light of the "brash" actions of external players, including the United States, in the region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said following a meeting with his Malaysian counterpart Mohamad Hasan in the country’s capital Kuala Lumpur.
The possible deployment of US nuclear weapons in Southeast Asia would increase security risks in the region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

"They [Southeast Asian countries] see us as, if you will, a balancing and stabilizing factor in terms of countering the overly brash actions of extra-regional powers led by the US, which are really pushing their military infrastructure, including strategic weapons, here," Lavrov said at a press conference.
The possible deployment of US nuclear weapons in Southeast Asia would increase security risks in the region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.
"If this sad and rather risky experience [the deployment of US nuclear weapons in other countries] is brought to Southeast Asia, I think no one will benefit from it, and the risks will increase," the minister stressed.

Golan Heights incident is escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah
Blame for Saturday’s rocket attack on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, which reportedly killed 12 and injured 30, was pinned by Tel Aviv on Lebanon’s Shiite Hezbollah movement, exacerbating ongoing regional tensions.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Hezbollah "will pay a heavy price for this attack, one that it has not paid so far."
What's known about the attack?
🔸 A rocket exploded in a soccer field in the Druze village of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights on July 27, leading to casualties among children and teens, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Daniel Hagari said in a statement.
🔸 The IDF claims the attack was conducted by Hezbollah from Lebanese territory with an Iranian-made Falaq-1 rocket carrying a warhead of over 50 kilograms of explosives.
🔸 The US blames Hezbollah for the strike. However, a source close to US intelligence officials told AP they aren't sure the Shiite group intended to target the Druze village.
🔸 Hezbollah "categorically" denies striking the Druze village in the occupied Golan Heights. Officials of the movement told the UN that the tragedy was the result of an Israeli interceptor hitting the soccer field, according to Axios.
🔸 Earlier in the day, Hezbollah and the IDF were involved in a cross border exchange of fire over Israeli air strikes on southern Lebanese regions that reportedly killed four members of the Shiite group.
🔸 Israeli warplanes struck a series of Hezbollah targets in Lebanon overnight, as per the IDF. Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi announced the military is increasing its readiness for "the next stage" of fighting with Hezbollah.

US, Japan, South Korea to launch new military command
The defense ministers of Japan, the United States, and South Korea — Minoru Kihara, Lloyd Austin, and Shin Won-sik — have agreed to establish a new military command in Japan, citing Russia, China, and North Korea as “danger” at a trilateral meeting in Tokyo on Sunday, the WSJ reports.
The new US command will coordinate military operations with Japan, plan joint exercises, and participate in the defense of the country in the event of hostilities. This will be the first time a US warfighting command is stationed in Japan, allowing American forces in the area to operate without having to wait for directives from the US Indo-Pacific Command, located 3,500 miles away in Hawaii.
According to the WSJ, the move is aimed at building up Japan’s military capabilities, and boosting the West’s industrial base, which is expected to include providing Patriot anti-missile systems for the US that are produced in Japan.
The Russian Foreign Ministry earlier said that the trilateral military alliance between Washington, Tokyo, and Seoul raises tensions in the region. The only real threat in the Indo-Pacific region is US policy, while other issues, including North Korea's missile program, must be resolved through a collective response, the ministry added.
