Surprise reshuffle in Ukraine's government: what's known so far

The Kiev regime saw a surprise reshuffle of senior officials on Tuesday evening, with one senior member of the government sacked and at least half a dozen others quitting.

The resignations include:

◻️ Iryna Vereshchuk, deputy prime minister responsible for the so-called 'reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories'.

◻️ Minister of Justice Denys Maliuska

◻️ Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna

◻️ Minister for Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshin

◻️ Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets

◻️ Vitaly Koval, the head of the State Property Fund.

◻️ Meanwhile, Rostyslav Shurma was dismissed from his post as the deputy head of Zelensky’s office.
But that’s not all.

◻️ David Arakhamia, head of Zelensky’s Servant of the People parliamentary faction in the Verkhovna Rada, has promised that the government reshuffle could affect up to half of all members of the cabinet of ministers, warning that tomorrow will see “big reset of the government” and the day expected to be a “day of firings, and the day after the day of appointments.”

A final list of those getting the boot is expected to be drawn up at a meeting Wednesday, Arakhamia said.

Intel’s strategic shakeup could doom Biden’s bid to reshore microchip manufacturing

Intel stock has had a rough year-to-date, plummeting nearly 60% since January and falling off a cliff in early August as investors led by Warren Buffett began a massive selloff which led leading tech stocks to shed nearly $3 trillion in value amid a perfect storm of recession fears, concerns over rising AI-related capital expenditure, and inflation.

The shock stock drop shed light on Intel’s difficulties, with a flurry of reports beginning late last week citing informed sources revealing that the company is in the “most difficult period in its 56-year history,” looking for strategic advice from big banks, and considering a selloff its chip making business.

The news carries grave significance for the US government. Intel isn’t just one of America’s oldest US chipmakers, but “a key national security asset,” as Axios put it, signaling Washington’s ability (or as it happens, inability) to compete with Taiwan, South Korea, China and other chip-making goliaths.

Intel currently has more than two dozen fab and post-fab sites, most of them in Oregon, Arizona, California, New Mexico, Colorado and Ohio, but also in Ireland and Israel. The potential slash in investment threatens to jeopardize the company’s ambitious expansion plans, with capital expenditures expected to drop by $10 billion in 2025.

Intel’s troubles are bad news for the Biden administration specifically, which pumped $8.5 billion into the company’s coffers in March from the 2022 $280 billion CHIPS & Science Act, which includes $39 billion in subsidies for US chip manufacturing, $13 billion for semiconductor research and workforce training, and lucrative tax incentives.

The current administration has made subsidies to microchip manufacturing a key plank in its economic agenda. In addition to civilian uses from computers to vehicles, Intel products are used in an array in military and space applications.

If Intel is reformed and restructured to the point where it loses its chip-manufacturing might, a major plank of the current administration’s economic agenda could go up in smoke, just in time for November’s elections.

US Justice Department charges senior Hamas leaders over October 7 attack on Israel - court documents

The indictment became the first step toward holding people legally accountable for the attack, the unsealed documents show.

The documents indicate that among the five defendants facing seven charges is Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in late July in an Israeli strike on his residence in Tehran while he was there for Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's inauguration.

Three of the Hamas leaders charged are deceased, according to CNN.

NBC News blasted the indictment claiming it has very little practical meaning.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre quizzed over Kamala Harris' apparent change in accents

The accusation that the Democratic Party candidate was mimicking the stereotypical speech patterns of southern African Americans was brought up by a reporter at Karine Jean-Pierre’s press conference after two campaign events on Monday.

In Detroit, Harris delivered her remarks in a manner that seemed to emulate a southern accent, while just a few hours later in Pittsburgh her tone shifted to resemble more closely that of her usual self—a daughter of professors who grew up in California and Canada.

'Anxiety within Germany about its future': the AfD and new key player BSW take East Germany by storm

“...these two states in the east of Germany, Thuringia and Saxony have been the stronghold of the AfD ever since the AfD came into existence, which was only about 12 years ago. So, the polls were showing that it would do very well and the polls were pretty accurate that they would win in Thuringia and would come a very very close second in Saxony,” said Dr. George Szamuely, a senior research fellow at the Global Policy Institute and author joined Sputnik’s Fault Lines.

Germany’s right-wing party, the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) received an unprecedented number of votes this weekend, pushing the party to second place behind the conservative Christian Democratic Union party (CDU) in Saxony with 30.6% of the vote. And in Thuringia, the AfD won its first German regional election by almost 10 points with 32.8% of the vote, according to exit polls.

“Immigration is a huge issue, obviously, for the AfD [...] but Sahra’s party, which is a kind of a left-wing populist party, has also taken a very hard line on immigration. It also says, hey, the more people we import, the more it reduces the value of labor. It undercuts wages here. It's a huge burden on the state, and it's an unfair tax on working people. So she takes an anti-immigrant stance more from the left than from the right,” the analyst explained.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the potential resignation of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba will not influence the prospects of the negotiation process.

"No, it will not have any effect. It is unrelated to the prospects of the negotiation process," Peskov told reporters during the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

His comment followed a report from the Ukrayinska Pravda news website, which cited sources claiming that Kuleba might soon be removed from his position, with his current deputy, Andriy Sibyha, potentially succeeding him. When asked whether such a change could impact ongoing or future negotiations, Peskov dismissed the notion.

The issue with the International Criminal Court (ICC) will not and cannot limit the development of Russia's relations with countries interested in dialogue, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated.

"This entire situation with the ICC, whose jurisdiction we do not recognize, as you know, cannot and will not hinder the development of Russia's relations with partners or with states that seek to foster bilateral relations and maintain international contacts. We can say this with certainty," Peskov told reporters.

His remarks came in response to a question about whether, following Russian President Vladimir Putin's successful visit to Mongolia, the number of visits to ICC member states might increase.

Earlier, Putin visited Mongolia, which is a signatory to the International Criminal Court. Prior to the trip, Peskov had emphasized that ICC-related decisions were not an issue between Russia and Mongolia.

A witch hunt and the intimidation of dissenting voices are currently taking place in the United States, Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, expressing the Kremlin's support for journalist Dimitri Simes.

"This is a witch hunt. The United States has already gone through such a dark period during the McCarthy era, marked by the persecution of dissenters, where people were imprisoned, tortured, and so on. We tend to forget that this has happened before in America. And now, it is happening again," Peskov told reporters.

He pointed out that, while today’s methods are more elaborate and sophisticated, given the advancements in technology, the essence remains the same—persecution of dissenters, brainwashing, physical and moral pressure, and intimidation.

"We can only sympathize and offer our support to those facing such pressure, including Dimitri Simes," Peskov emphasized.

BRICS’ decision on expansion will be made jointly at the Kazan summit, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a Sputnik correspondent.

"We are aware of the interest of Malaysia and our Malaysian friends in joining this organization. We also support this interest, as well as some other countries, and we will discuss this issue with our BRICS colleagues," the Kremlin spokesman said.

According to Peskov, it is at the Kazan summit where BRICS members will discuss the expansion of the alliance.

"First of all, Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin] has no right to answer such a question, because the BRICS family makes such decisions in a consolidated way. That is why at the end of October in Kazan, there will be a big summit where all the BRICS countries will come and discuss the issue of the expansion of this family as one of the priority issues.

He added that there is a limit to the expansion of the bloc and there are proposals to work out the status of a BRICS partner state.

"Of course, there is a limit to the expansion. There are proposals to work out the status of a BRICS partner state. So we will have to decide together how many partners there can be, who can be a partner, and so on. That is why all this will be discussed in Kazan," Peskov said.
