White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre quizzed over Kamala Harris' apparent change in accents

The accusation that the Democratic Party candidate was mimicking the stereotypical speech patterns of southern African Americans was brought up by a reporter at Karine Jean-Pierre’s press conference after two campaign events on Monday.

In Detroit, Harris delivered her remarks in a manner that seemed to emulate a southern accent, while just a few hours later in Pittsburgh her tone shifted to resemble more closely that of her usual self—a daughter of professors who grew up in California and Canada.

Scholz’s pro-war policy faces setback in Eastern Germany elections Parties critical of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s support for the Western-backed Ukraine proxy war against Russia fared well in elections in eastern German states. “The election results…
'Anxiety within Germany about its future': the AfD and new key player BSW take East Germany by storm

“...these two states in the east of Germany, Thuringia and Saxony have been the stronghold of the AfD ever since the AfD came into existence, which was only about 12 years ago. So, the polls were showing that it would do very well and the polls were pretty accurate that they would win in Thuringia and would come a very very close second in Saxony,” said Dr. George Szamuely, a senior research fellow at the Global Policy Institute and author joined Sputnik’s Fault Lines.

Germany’s right-wing party, the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) received an unprecedented number of votes this weekend, pushing the party to second place behind the conservative Christian Democratic Union party (CDU) in Saxony with 30.6% of the vote. And in Thuringia, the AfD won its first German regional election by almost 10 points with 32.8% of the vote, according to exit polls.

“Immigration is a huge issue, obviously, for the AfD [...] but Sahra’s party, which is a kind of a left-wing populist party, has also taken a very hard line on immigration. It also says, hey, the more people we import, the more it reduces the value of labor. It undercuts wages here. It's a huge burden on the state, and it's an unfair tax on working people. So she takes an anti-immigrant stance more from the left than from the right,” the analyst explained.

The Russia-ASEAN Business Dialogue was held on the second day of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia, a Sputnik correspondent reported.

Discussions focused on deepening cooperation and exploring new opportunities in the dynamic Asia-Pacific region, which is crucial for Russia's development plans in the Far East and Arctic.

Myanmar's Minister of Hotels and Tourism Thet Thet Khine took part in the discussion, inviting Russian tourists to explore Myanmar and emphasizing the role of tourism in strengthening international ties. She also announced an upcoming event in October for tour operators and media to promote Myanmar's tourism sector.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the potential resignation of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba will not influence the prospects of the negotiation process.

"No, it will not have any effect. It is unrelated to the prospects of the negotiation process," Peskov told reporters during the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

His comment followed a report from the Ukrayinska Pravda news website, which cited sources claiming that Kuleba might soon be removed from his position, with his current deputy, Andriy Sibyha, potentially succeeding him. When asked whether such a change could impact ongoing or future negotiations, Peskov dismissed the notion.

The issue with the International Criminal Court (ICC) will not and cannot limit the development of Russia's relations with countries interested in dialogue, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated.

"This entire situation with the ICC, whose jurisdiction we do not recognize, as you know, cannot and will not hinder the development of Russia's relations with partners or with states that seek to foster bilateral relations and maintain international contacts. We can say this with certainty," Peskov told reporters.

His remarks came in response to a question about whether, following Russian President Vladimir Putin's successful visit to Mongolia, the number of visits to ICC member states might increase.

Earlier, Putin visited Mongolia, which is a signatory to the International Criminal Court. Prior to the trip, Peskov had emphasized that ICC-related decisions were not an issue between Russia and Mongolia.

A witch hunt and the intimidation of dissenting voices are currently taking place in the United States, Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, expressing the Kremlin's support for journalist Dimitri Simes.

"This is a witch hunt. The United States has already gone through such a dark period during the McCarthy era, marked by the persecution of dissenters, where people were imprisoned, tortured, and so on. We tend to forget that this has happened before in America. And now, it is happening again," Peskov told reporters.

He pointed out that, while today’s methods are more elaborate and sophisticated, given the advancements in technology, the essence remains the same—persecution of dissenters, brainwashing, physical and moral pressure, and intimidation.

"We can only sympathize and offer our support to those facing such pressure, including Dimitri Simes," Peskov emphasized.

BRICS’ decision on expansion will be made jointly at the Kazan summit, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a Sputnik correspondent.

"We are aware of the interest of Malaysia and our Malaysian friends in joining this organization. We also support this interest, as well as some other countries, and we will discuss this issue with our BRICS colleagues," the Kremlin spokesman said.

According to Peskov, it is at the Kazan summit where BRICS members will discuss the expansion of the alliance.

"First of all, Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin] has no right to answer such a question, because the BRICS family makes such decisions in a consolidated way. That is why at the end of October in Kazan, there will be a big summit where all the BRICS countries will come and discuss the issue of the expansion of this family as one of the priority issues.

He added that there is a limit to the expansion of the bloc and there are proposals to work out the status of a BRICS partner state.

"Of course, there is a limit to the expansion. There are proposals to work out the status of a BRICS partner state. So we will have to decide together how many partners there can be, who can be a partner, and so on. That is why all this will be discussed in Kazan," Peskov said.

BRICS’ decision on expansion will be made jointly at the Kazan summit, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a Sputnik correspondent. "We are aware of the interest of Malaysia and our Malaysian friends in joining this organization. We also support this interest…
Other main points from Peskov's briefing:

🔸 Vladimir Putin is actively preparing his speech at the Eastern Economic Forum plenary session

🔸 Putin will visit the Pacific Fleet's coastal flotilla base and inspect the site of the construction of a new shipyard

🔸 Sergei Shoigu did not accompany Putin on his trip to Tuva because his field of work has changed, and he was not part of the delegation

🔸 Pressure from critics and threats of sanctions have reduced the number of foreign participants at the EEF, but the situation will improve in the coming years

🔸 The West's refusal to engage in dialogue, attack on Russia's security interests, and provocation of the conflict in Ukraine have been taken into account in the formation of the Russian nuclear doctrine

🔸 An update to Russia's nuclear doctrine is required by the current agenda, which is a consequence of the West's actions

🔸 Moscow is carefully recording all incoming information about possible personnel reshuffles in Kiev

🔸 The possible resignation of Dmytro Kuleba as Ukrainian foreign minister will not affect the prospects of a negotiation process

🔸 The degree of US involvement in the conflict in Ukraine is constantly increasing, and there are no preconditions for this process to stop

🔸 Moscow is taking into account that Ukraine will strike deep inside Russian territory using US-made long-range weapons

🔸 It is unlikely that US policy towards Russia will change fundamentally after the US elections; nuances may depend on the composition of the administration

🔸 Anything can be expected from the current US administration regarding Ukraine, and Washington refuses to take steps towards a peaceful solution

🔸 A decision on attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure in winter will be made by the Russian military, depending on its needs

🔸 The history of the ICC cannot and will not be an obstacle to the development of relations with countries interested in dialogue and international contacts

🔸 An informal CIS summit is planned on the eve of a parade in Moscow to mark the 85th anniversary of victory in World War II (Great Patriotic War)

🔸 The sides are not trying to tie the agreement on gas supplies through the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline to a specific date, commercial negotiations are underway

🔸 The development of trilateral cooperation between Russia, Mongolia, and China is not optional, and the details of joint projects are being finalized

🔸 No decision has yet been made on Putin's participation in the G20 summit in Brazil
