Nineteen steps ahead: Trump comments on Putin’s ironic endorsement of Kamala Harris

Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, said he was “offended” by Putin’s support of Kamala Harris; however, he suggested “it was done with a smile.”

"I knew Putin, I knew him well. The other day, he endorsed Kamala [Harris]. He endorsed Kamala — I was very offended by that. I wonder why he endorsed Kamala? No, he is a chess player. Should I be upset about that? Was it done with a smile? I think it was done maybe with a smile… I don’t know. Who the hell knows? Nobody is gonna figure it out. They [Russia] are about nineteen steps ahead of us," Trump told his supporters at a rally in Wisconsin.

Vladimir Putin, speaking at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum, jokingly said that Russia would support the US presidential candidate from the Democratic Party, Kamala Harris, adding that “her laugh is so fascinating.”

Kim Jong Un oversees construction of new naval base

The North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, has inspected the construction of a new naval base, reports KCNA news agency.

Kim stressed that North Korea is “a maritime country bounded on the east and west sides by the sea” and because of that, its government “has always attached importance to the shipbuilding industry and the development of its naval force."

The report underscored that North Korea has reached a “historic turning point in building up the country's defense capabilities and army."

The US, Japan and South Korea have recently established brand-new military command structures under the pretext of alleged dangers from Russia, China and North Korea. Pyongyang is rapidly building up its military capabilities, citing the worsening security situation in the Asia-Pacific, and US plans to establish an "Asian NATO."

Biden has spent over 40% of his presidency on vacation

The current president of the United States has spent 532 days on vacation in less then four years of his presidency — he's been in office for 1,326 days, the New York Post reports.

“The image of Biden fast asleep and lying flat on his back in his chair at the beach while America and the world is on fire will define the Biden presidency,” the general counsel of the White House budget office under former President Donald Trump, Mark Paoletta, told the newspaper.

According to the report, an average American gets 11 vacation days a year, which would take them approximately 48 years to accumulate Biden's number of days off.

Biden has been keeping a low public presence since late July, according to article, as "he’s annoyed with fellow Democrats," such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who turned against him and pressured him not to run for reelection.

France should mull joining BRICS, Global South – Ex-European MP

France should consider joining BRICS and return to its traditional advocacy for a multipolar world, former French member of the European Parliament and geopolitical analyst, Aymeric Chauprade, told Russian media on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum.

According to Chauprade, France traditionally endorsed multipolarity in global politics, until Jacques Chirac's administration embraced the US-oriented approach.

"Joining BRICS is a return to our natural policy. So, it is absolutely natural, not strange. And it is realistic as France is not only a European country; territorially, it is a global power,” the analyst stressed, adding that Paris is present in both the Pacific Ocean and the Carribbean Basin, while having the second-largest exclusive economic zone in the world.

That is why, “it is logical to belong to this Global South” and join organizations like BRICS, the former MP said, adding that joining BRICS would be a return to French “natural policy” and would benefit the cause of the multipolar world.

Why do Russian tanks use ‘beards’ of chains?

Russian tank crewmen stationed in the special operation zone have started to use chains to protect their armored vehicles from mine explosions, the Russian daily reports.

The chains, which resemble a beard and are installed on the front part of the tank, are designed to combat enemy mines that are triggered by contact with the bottom of the armed vehicle, according to the daily.

When it comes to “chain beards”, such protection's goal is said to tackle high-explosive antitank shells, thereby increasing crew survival rates.

Apart from these “beards”, the Russian tanks are typically equipped with grill-like cages protecting them from Ukrainian drone strikes at the front lines.
