What to do? Israel still cannot decide on response to Iranian retaliatory missile strike

While usually quick to attack its neighbors, with or without provocation, Israel seems unable to decide how to respond to Iran’s retaliatory missile strike against Israeli military bases last week, Israeli Channel 12 News reports.

The Israeli cabinet did not give Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant authority to decide on the response, though Channel 12 suggested “it is possible that the authorization will be done by telephone if necessary.”

Gallant may also further postpone his plans to travel to the US to meet with his counterpart Lloyd Austin, as Netanyahu apparently insists that he stays to help make “final decisions in the cabinet on the nature and timing of the response.”

Gallant was originally expected to meet Austin earlier this week, but had to scrap those plans due to Netanyahu’s insistence that he attend a Thursday night cabinet meeting.

According to Tel Aviv-based international relations expert Dr. Simon Tsipis, Netanyahu is afraid Gallant may be plotting against him and used the cabinet meeting as an excuse to keep the defense minister at home – and not plotting against the PM abroad.

"Netanyahu is paranoid, he has a king syndrome, a god complex,” says Tsipis. “He constantly fears that someone might overthrow or supplant him.”

FEMA fails Americans as Helena and Milton Hurricanes devastate US Southeast

Hurricane Milton has been raging since October 9, killing at least 15 and leaving 3 million people without electricity in Florida. The storm came on the heels of Hurricane Helena that devastated the US Southeast, washed away entire communities and claimed at least 230 lives.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has come under heavy criticism: despite receiving nearly $20.3 billion in the current fiscal year, it has failed Americans in need. The agency is burning through its money quickly: according to CNN, it is now down to $11 billion in its Disaster Relief Fund.

▪️After Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas claimed on October 2 that "FEMA does not have the funds to make it through the [hurricane] season," Republicans accused the agency of funneling $640.9 million in grants to charities aiding immigrants – many of whom entered the US illegally.

▪️While FEMA insists that immigrant aid is paid from a different fund, Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz said a whistle-blower told him of serious misappropriation of funds at the agency.

▪️"There is still no FEMA" and its relief remains "spotty at best", communities in western North Carolina and other regions devastated by Helena complained to the Federalist on October 9.

▪️While FEMA claimed on October 8 it had spent over $286 million on assistance "with an additional $180 million in mission assignments to federal partners" and dispatched 7,000 federal personnel, hurricane survivors mostly had to rely on churches and private local entities, the Federalist report reads.

▪️"FEMA is not merely failing to adequately help people in trouble, but is actively blocking citizens who try to help!" Tesla CEO Musk tweeted on October 4, accusing the agency of blocking the delivery of additional Starlink units to North Carolina.

▪️FEMA is also engulfed by wokeism: a newly-unearthed recording of a webinar indicated agents were taught to prioritize aiding LGBTQIA+* and other minority survivors over helping the most people possible.

▪️On October 6, former Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard – who has been on the ground in North Carolina and Georgia – called FEMA's failures a "slap in the face" to "forgotten" Americans in need. FEMA has made excuses and blamed financial constraints for its failures in previous hurricane seasons. In July 2023, agency Administrator Deanne Criswell told US congressmen the agency was facing "intensified natural disasters throughout the year" due to "climate change."

It is unclear whether the agency will learn its lesson and will handle Hurricane Milton differently.

Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has requested military aircraft, restrictions on flights over his residences and rallies and military vehicles to transport the Republican candidate in response to an alleged threat from Iran, the Washington Post reports.…
Trump's request for military aircraft amid 'Iran threat' may be granted if suitable - Biden

President Joe Biden said that former President Donald Trump's request to use military aircraft for transportation may be approved if deemed appropriate.

"I've told the department to give him every single thing he needs as if he were any sitting president. If it fits within that category, that's fine," Biden told reporters.

Biden jokingly added, "as long as he doesn't ask for F-15s."

Earlier, The Washington Post reported that the Trump campaign requested military aircraft for transportation in the final weeks of the campaign. The Trump team also asked the US government to expand flight restrictions over his residences and rallies and provide military vehicles due to an alleged threat from Iran, the report added.

❗️ Boeing plans to cut workforce by roughly 10% (about 17,000 jobs) - reports

Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg notified employees that the company is laying off roughly 10% of its workforce as it struggles to deal with hardships the company has faced in recent years, Reuters reported.

"We must also reset our workforce levels to align with our financial reality and to a more focused set of priorities," Ortberg was quoted as saying. "Over the coming months, we are planning to reduce the size of our total workforce by roughly 10 percent. These reductions will include executives, managers, and employees."

The 10% reduction is equivalent to some 17,000 jobs, according to the media.

Moreover, the company announced that its new 777X aircraft will be delivered in 2026, a year after its initial delivery date. The project has faced challenges in development, as well as from the flight test pause and ongoing work stoppage. Boeing will also end production of its 767 Freighters in 2027, the report said.

West sacrificing military readiness to back Ukraine – analyst (Part 1 👉 Part 2)

The United States and its European allies are destroying their own military preparedness to fight an increasingly futile crusade against Russia, according to Serbian-American journalist Nebojsa Malic.

“The Pentagon is drawing on its [weapons] stockpiles as much as they can,” the analyst claimed on Sputnik’s The Backstory program. “It's not the issue of, ‘oh, send everything.’ They are sending everything. This is everything they can spare.”

“Ten days ago when the Iranians fired all of those missiles at Israel apparently the US ships that were stationed there fired off 12 interceptors, not to very much effect from what I could see. And it turns out that's the entire annual production. They're making 12 missiles a year. So, it's not like they have something to send. They're already raiding the US armory as it is.”

The Ukraine proxy war has shed light on the weaknesses of Western militaries as the US and its allies have struggled to continue to arm Kiev. A report earlier this year revealed that Russia is producing three times more artillery than the United States and its European partners combined.

“The enthusiasm for Ukraine in America is just about tapped out after these two hurricanes and the disastrous damage they've inflicted, and the fact that it took a week for anybody to even notice that North Carolina and Tennessee are facing biblical floods,” Malic added.

Polling shows Americans increasingly believe the US has spent too much money funding the Ukraine proxy war.

Harris' words about Orban unacceptable, disrespectful to Hungarians – Szijjarto

The words of US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris toward Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban are unacceptable and disrespectful, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told RIA Novosti.

Earlier this week, Harris during an interview appeared to refer to Orban, Chinese President Xi Jinping and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as "dictators" and "murderers."

"Well, first of all, that's a scandal. That's a scandal to talk about my Prime Minister this way. This is unacceptable. This is a total disrespect not only towards the Prime Minister but to the Hungarian people," Szijjarto said.

Hungary has always shown respect for the United States and expects to be treated the same way, the minister emphasized.

"So as we have always shown respect to the American people, we expect the Americans to show respect to the Hungarian nation as well. And such kind of a statement shows a total disrespect, which is unacceptable, especially between allies," Szijjarto stressed.

Biden urges Iran's government to ‘cease all plotting against Trump’ – report

US President Joe Biden called on the Iranian government to “cease all plotting” against presidential candidate Donald Trump and former US officials, stating that any Iranian attempt to assassinate the former president would be considered an act of war according to US media, citing a senior Biden administration official.

Spokesperson for the US National Security Council Sean Savett emphasized that alleged Iran's threats are a "national and homeland security matter of the highest priority," warning of "severe consequences" for any attacks on US citizens including former government officials, according to the report.

Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) added, “the US would regard it as an act of war... it would not be a pleasant day for the Iranian regime," the official was quoted as saying.

Iran has repeatedly denied the allegations with Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani stating that Tehran “strongly rejects any involvement in the recent armed attack on Trump or claims about Iran’s intention for such an action, considering such allegations to have malicious political motives and objectives.”

Modern Western militaries ‘aren’t built for’ war against superpower like Russia – journalist (Part 2 👉 Part 1)

Western military planners are also not accustomed to waging a large-scale war against a formidable opponent like Russia, claimed Serbian-American journalist Nebojsa Malic on Sputnik’s The Backstory program.

“Most people in the West can't even conceive of this scale and intensity of warfare,” Malic claimed. “Western militaries aren't built for it.”

“I remember reputable military experts warning five, six, ten years ago when they were trying to ramp up military spending in the West that NATO has the capability to fight for maybe two weeks,” he continued, noting the resources required to build costly Western equipment like Abrams tanks. “That was two and a half years ago, and now they've depleted all of their armories and all of their ammunition stocks, and now you have to wonder whether they still have the ability to fight for two weeks.”

Western armed forces have most recently focused on counterinsurgency strategies against resistance forces in the Middle East–conflicts that have allowed private defense contractors to profit handsomely on arms production at the expense of overall military readiness. Russia has meanwhile proven itself capable of quickly adapting amid its special military operation, even as the US and European countries like the UK and Germany send Kiev their top-of-the-line equipment.

“If there is a direct conflict with NATO, it will immediately go nuclear, and everybody knows this,” Malic added, noting Russia’s recent revision to its nuclear doctrine.

Szijjarto regrets lack of dialogue on Russia's draft treaty on security guarantees in 2021

The current situation might not have happened if NATO had discussed with Russia its draft treaty on security guarantees in 2021, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told RIA Novosti.

"Well, I remember those times. I think that what was missing there is a serious discussion," Szijjarto said, commenting on whether it was a mistake by NATO countries to abandon the Russian proposal on security guarantees made in December 2021.

The minister noted that he always believes in discussion and dialogue.

"These discussions have not taken place, unfortunately. Well, now we are more than three years after or almost three years after, so it might not make sense what I say now, but I wish those dialogues had taken place, because if they had taken place, we might not be in a situation where we are right now," Szijjarto said.

Europe facing economic apocalypse amid leaders’ obsession with Ukraine proxy war (Part 3 👉 Part 1)

European countries are facing the consequences of their leaders’ near single-minded focus on war with Russia, noted Serbian-American journalist Nebojsa Malic on Sputnik’s The Backstory program.

“They're literally sucking out what little economic energy there is in Europe,” Malic said of EU and NATO leadership. “Their own populations are getting poorer by the day. There's an energy crisis going on. There's a manufacturing crisis going on. Their industrial production is non-existent. And that's just us not talking just, like, military production, but civilian industry.”

German industry continues to falter amid sanctions on Russian natural gas which have dramatically increased energy prices, while social services throughout the continent have struggled to adapt to the strain of accommodating Ukrainian refugees.

EU leaders have signaled intransigence amid public opposition to their foreign and domestic policy as protests spread throughout the continent. French President Emmanuel Macron has faced ongoing resistance to cuts to hard-won labor rights, while farmers in Poland and other countries have demonstrated against neoliberal economic measures favoring Ukrainian agricultural product.

“We've got German car makers going bankrupt for the first time ever,” Malic added. "This is serious stuff.”

The latest estimates from German economic analysts reveal that the German economy is expected to shrink in 2024 for the second year in a row. GDP will decline by about .1% while it faced a contraction of .3% in 2023.
