“NATO’s deployments are always defensive and proportionate," a US State Department spokesperson told Sputnik amid ongoing drills in Poland. "They are not designed to provoke conflict, but to prevent conflict.”
Meanwhile, the situation in Ukraine's restive region of Donbass has taken a turn for the worse as Ukrainian government forces intensified shelling of the territory controlled by the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Lugansk People's Republic (LPR).

US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed on the principle of a proposed summit to lay out issues related to strategic stability and security in Europe, according to a Sunday release by Élysée.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov are slated to meet on Thursday, February 24, to begin the diplomatic effort.
An official statement from the Russian and American counterparts have yet to be released.

Cindric took the lead late after two crashes in the final 10 laps slowed the action and removed Ricky Stenhouse Jr., among others, from contention.
The son of Team Penske president Tim Cindric, Austin is also the grandson of Jim Trueman, a former owner of an Indy 500-winning team. The younger Cindric won the 2020 XFinity Series noscript, then made seven Cup Series starts last year, including a 15th-place finish at the 2021 Daytona 500.

During this period, students' physical and mental endurance is rigorously tested, with runs totaling over 200 miles, long hours of physical training, and swimming in the frigid waters of the Pacific.
Navy SEAL students are geared to overcome adversity and push through, often against odds or reason. For the Navy SEAL community, training deaths are not common, but they aren't rare.
