Zelensky’s TurkStream attack dragging the EU into quagmire of Ukraine’s defeat – strategic analyst
Ukraine’s attack on Russia’s TurkStream compressor station is Volodymyr Zelensky’s “foolish” attempt to improve his negotiating position through terrorist acts, Paolo Raffone, a strategic analyst and director of the CIPI Foundation in Brussels, tells Sputnik.
The analyst highlighted that the Kiev regime is facing defeat on the battlefield and rising domestic dissatisfaction with the country’s political and military leadership. Meanwhile, the incoming Trump administration has indicated that the time is ripe for talks.
Under these circumstances, Zelensky has intensified efforts to secure additional financial and military support from the West, Raffone adds.
Given its inability to reverse the worsening military situation, the Kiev regime is “increasingly resorting to unorthodox warfare tactics,” including terrorist attacks, Raffone notes.

“Through terrorist attacks, Zelensky will not win over demoralized troops or [counteract the discontent] of the population. Instead, he endangers the willingness of those guaranteeing his survival in a situation of total dependency from external financial and military aid,” Raffone states.

💬 "Anyone in the West who has been slandering Russia, accusing it of 'nuclear destabilization,' 'rattling nuclear weapons,' etc., should from now on be called a liar and a spreader of fakes. Today's statement by Biden is an admission of a consciously committed provocation. The Biden administration did know it was pushing the world toward the abyss and still fueled the conflict," commented Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, on Biden’s remarks earlier in the day.
In his final address as US president on Monday, Biden claimed that American military support for Ukraine posed a risk of nuclear confrontation with Russia, but this threat was avoided.

🇷🇺🤝 🇮🇷 Russia-Iran power play: a strategic alliance taking shape
The upcoming signing of a partnership treaty between Russia and Iran highlights the fact that these two countries have much in common, including their enemies, Foad Izadi, associate professor at the Department of American Studies of the University of Tehran, told Sputnik.
🇷🇺 Defense partnership
◻️ Defense and security cooperation, which “has been a constant part of Iran-Russia relations for many decades now,” can also flourish under the auspices of the new treaty.
◻️ The hostility the US and some European states show towards Russia and Iran also necessitates “more cooperation between the two neighbors.”
◻️ Having noted the threat of terrorist organizations both Russia and Iran face, Izadi stressed that some of these groups are supported by certain “Western countries” who should realize now “that there is a united front among the countries of this region to make sure that terrorism doesn't take hold.”
🇷🇺 Economic cooperation
Cooperation helps Moscow and Tehran to resist pressure from adversaries such as the US and to deal with the sanctions imposed by the West, thus making the strengthening of economic ties between Russia and Iran all but inevitable, Izadi explained.
🇷🇺 Space cooperation
Izadi pointed out the prospects of deeper Russian-Iranian cooperation in space, an area where Russia possesses “more advanced technology than Iran.”
Iran would be interested in Russia’s “colossal experience” in that sphere, as well as in Moscow’s assistance in launching Iranian satellites into orbit, Russian military expert Yuri Lyamin pointed out.

💬 “There are capabilities that Iran has in these areas that Russia would use and would like to use. And there are capabilities on the Russian side that Iran is interested in. So like any other type of trade, there's a ‘give and take’,” Izadi remarked.

💬 “Russia used to buy a lot of goods from Europe, for example, before the Ukraine conflict, and some of those goods are available in Iran,” Izadi suggested. “So Iranian companies would be happy to basically cover some of the products that are not coming to Russia from Europe.”

Special Counsel David Weiss criticized President Biden’s pardon of his son Hunter, stating in a report to Congress that it blocks further accountability for crimes committed over the past 11 years.
💬 “Before Mr. Biden could be sentenced... President Biden pardoned his son for all criminal offenses,” Weiss wrote. The comments were part of Weiss's 280-page final report, reviewed by Congress on Monday, as reported by The Hill and Daily Mail.
💬 House Oversight Chairman James Comer called the pardon a shield for corruption: “This sweeping pardon prevents the Special Counsel from holding Hunter Biden accountable for the international influence peddling racket only made possible by Joe Biden,” Comer said.
💬 “Joe Biden will be remembered for using his last few weeks in office to shield his son from the law,” he added.
Weiss also rejected claims by President Biden that the investigation was politically motivated, saying that they "undermine the public's confidence in our criminal justice system."
