Here’s why the DC helicopter-plane midair collision is a ‘PUZZLE’

It is hard to fathom how the January 29 deadly air collision above Washington DC could have happened since the pilots of the Black Hawk helicopter should have seen the incoming aircraft, aviation industry specialist Capt. Desmond Ross tells Sputnik.

▪️With all the air traffic to and from Washington’s three airports, one does not simply “fly around there at low altitude without keeping a very, very sharp lookout through the canopy.”

▪️While the helicopter crew could have been “focused on instruments only and not really looking out of the aircraft,” such conduct would have been “improper.”

▪️The fact that the air traffic controllers apparently were aware of the collision risk and tried warning the helicopter, but got no response from it, is “confusing as well.”

“It’s a puzzle,” stated Capt. Ross, an aviation industry specialist with 25 years at senior executive management level and consulting.
