🕶 TIME mum on infamous 2021 cover of sunglasses-wearing Biden ‘taking on Putin’ as Ukraine crisis unfolds
Last year, TIME was widely mocked ahead of Biden’s summit with Putin once the magazine’s cover image of a sunglasses-wearing president was revealed. The over-the-top, flattering image of the Democratic president featured Biden in his signature aviator shades with the headline, "Taking on Putin."
The flattering Biden cover came after years of TIME publishing unflattering illustrations of former President Donald Trump, complete with a pair of covers showing his "meltdown" stages and another set of covers showing Trump’s Oval Office filling up with water amid a "stormy" situation. The magazine even morphed Trump and Putin together ahead of their summit back in 2018.
But things are much different with Biden in office

🔎 Jessie Smollett's lawyers claimed that the court made various errors during the trial, and they've asked a Chicago judge to toss out his conviction.
Smollett, 39, was found guilty in December of lying to police when he told cops that admirers of former President Trump had beat him up for being black and gay.
Jussie Smollett’s lawyers asked a Chicago judge Friday to toss out his conviction for staging a hate crime — or grant him a new trial — claiming that his constitutional rights were violated by the court during the jury selection process.

😷 New Research Claims Wuhan Market as Pandemic Origin
Scientists released a pair of extensive studies on Saturday that point to a market in Wuhan, China, as the alleged origin of the coronavirus pandemic.
Analyzing data from a variety of sources, they concluded that the coronavirus was very likely present in live mammals sold in the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in late 2019 and alleged that the virus twice spilled over into people working or shopping there. They said they found no support for an alternate theory that the coronavirus escaped from a laboratory in Wuhan.
“When you look at all of the evidence together, it’s an extraordinarily clear picture that the pandemic started at the Huanan market,” said Michael Worobey, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Arizona and a co-author of both studies.
The two reports have not yet been published in a scientific journal that would require undergoing peer review.

❗️🗯🇷🇺 Russian envoy to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, spoke on Sunday about the tremendous amount of fake news circulating on social media about the Russian spec op in Ukraine:
"Today we witness an information war on Russia in social media. Since there are no proofs that Russian military destroy civilian infrastructure, Ukrainian strikes and occasional hits are presented as such, as well as photo and video footage from Donbas that again depict crimes committed by Ukrainian nationalists. Besides, in social media one can easily find tutorials that teach how to shoot fakes that should defile our special operation. All in all, there are 1.2 million such fakes in Ukrainian social media."
"I call on our colleagues to not promote the spread of such misinformation, though I am afraid my calls will not be heard," the envoy added.

🇷🇺☝️Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov mocked the leaders of the EU in a Sunday Telegram post, suggesting harsh mirror measures to possible sanctions against Russia. Those include:
🔸 closing the Chechen Republic's airspace to EU jets;
🔸 freezing all of Boris Johnson's ruble assets in Chechen banks;
🔸 imposing an embargo on all assets of the UK's oligarchs in Achkhoy-Martan and, if the situation escalates, in Samashki (a rural district in the Chechen Republic);
🔸admitting that left-hand traffic is a "heinous relic of the Middle Ages";
🔸and (this might be the most frightening one!) finally acknowledging that "there is no English tea" ☕️
Kadyrov set February 31 as the deadline for the EU leaders to walk back on their "sassy" statements, otherwise, the damage will be done

📉 The president’s approval rating has plummeted to 37 percent – with 55 percent disapproving – down 4 percentage points since November and 15 points since April 2021, according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll.
Dragging down Biden’s poll numbers are his handling of the economy (37 percent approve, 58 disapprove) and the coronavirus pandemic (44 percent approve, 50 percent disapprove).
The poll also shows that Americans believe Republicans would do a better job handling the economy than Democrats by 54 percent to 35 percent – an increase of 7 percentage points since November.

📲 A NOLA congressman has the internet dumbfounded by a cryptic tweet aimed at young folks -- and while some try to figure out what he means ... it's music to others peoples' ears.
U.S. Representative Clay Higgins -- who reps Louisiana's 3rd congressional district -- fired off a bizarre message Sunday ... apparently pissed off at liberals -- but his insult kinda fell flat, because no one really knows what the hell he's even saying.
Higgins wrote, "You millennial leftists who never lived one day under nuclear threat can now reflect upon your woke sky. You made quite a non-binary fuss to save the world from intercontinental ballistic tweets."
Even Dictionary.com got in on the fun; directly responding to Rep. Higgins by asking the obvious. They wrote, "We’re not entirely sure what this tweet is supposed to mean, and we’re literally the dictionary."

🎙 President Joe Biden claimed the COVID-19 pandemic has made it psychologically difficult for Americans to feel happy despite their improving economic circumstances.
During an extensive interview with Brian Tyler Cohen that aired Saturday, the progressive host asked Biden to address frustration that some Democrats might feel about the party's agenda not moving forward quickly enough despite Democrats controlling both Congress and the White House.
'I think it's hard for people to get their arms around the fact that we have the fastest growing economy in 40 years,' said Biden.
