The White House is holding discussions and consulting outside experts to consider various diplomatic options regarding the DPRK, Axios reports.

🔸The Swedish ambassador, who de-facto represents US interests in North Korea due to the absence of official diplomatic ties between Washington and Pyongyang, visited American soil last week for consultations.

🔸Since the last Trump-Kim meeting in 2019, North Korea is believed to have significantly boosted its nuclear capabilities.

🔸However, the de-nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula would be a non-starter for Trump, as nuclear status is enshrined in North Korea’s constitution, according to undisclosed US officials.

Plans for joint building of commercial ships with military applications were announced by US Navy Secretary John Phelan, Nikkei Asia reports.

He admitted that China's ability to convert commercial ships to military use “seems to be very quick,” which he said is currently not the case with Japan and the US.

New US ambassador to Japan, George Glass, earlier urged the US and Japan to cooperate more on defense in the face of what he described as an increasingly "confrontational" China, who dismissed the comments as a diplomatic slur.
