Meanwhile, Axios claimed the White House was discussing with Tehran the possibility of a meeting between US envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi this week.

The talks would reportedly revolve around diplomatic initiatives concerning a nuclear deal and the Iran-Israel conflict.

🇮🇷🇮🇱WHAT'S KNOWN ABOUT THE IRAN-ISRAEL ESCALATION SO FAR?

Israel and Iran continue to exchange strikes following Tel Aviv’s Operation Rising Lion, launched on June 13.

🟠On the night of June 17, Iran launched a new retaliatory missile and drone strike on Israel. Over 140 drones, followed by missiles, were timed to hit Israeli targets simultaneously, ILNA reported. Air raid sirens sounded in central Israel, including Tel Aviv.

🟠An Israeli base linked to Monday’s strike on Iran’s state TV building was hit by IRGC ballistic missiles, reported Nour News.

🟠Israeli air defenses malfunctioned in Tel Aviv. An Israeli air defense missile crashed into the city. IRNA said the Israeli “Iron Dome” missile system was hacked. Iran also destroyed Israel’s long-range air defense system in the country’s central region, Fars agency reported.

🟠Iranian air defenses were repelling Israeli attacks on Tehran, Natanz, and other cities, according to Sabreen News. Three explosions were heard in eastern Tehran.

🟠The White House on X highlighted in yellow a post by US President Donald Trump calling for the immediate evacuation from Tehran. Earlier, Israel’s Channel 14 reported Tel Aviv’s plan to force a mass evacuation from Tehran to undermine the government.

👉The Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemned Israel’s attacks against Iran. A copy of the resolution was submitted to the UN Security Council.

👉Axios reported Washington is discussing a possible meeting this week between US envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the Iran nuclear deal and cessation of hostilities.

👉Axios also claims Trump views the massive bunker busters, capable of destroying Iran’s Fordow facility but possessed by the US—not Israel—as key leverage to force a deal.

With the Israel-Iranian conflict in full swing, oil producers and oil consumers alike are wondering: could Iran resort to shutting down maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, and if so, how it might affect oil prices?

Oil could hit $130 per barrel, or even $300, if Iran does close the strait, warns Dr. Tilak Doshi from the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center.

It is very likely that such high prices would not be “favored by the US administration, and they will try to arrive at a resolution of the war as soon as possible,” he notes.

💬“Historically, in 2008, oil prices briefly reached $147 per barrel without any major geopolitical conflict, driven solely by financial speculation and tight supply-demand dynamics,” muses energy economist Dr. Kazi Sohag.

👉“During the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo, triggered by the Yom Kippur War, oil prices increased by 300%, demonstrating how quickly markets can react to political shocks,” he adds.

Even without the strait's closure, targeting Iran’s oil export and refining facilities could push prices to $80 or even $90, predicts Marc Ayoub, energy policy researcher.

💬“If things continue like they are currently, we would stay on the same norm, and we might reach a level or a ceiling of $80 per barrel maximum,” he elaborates.

👉“And also, if Israeli Kareesh or Leviathan are targeted as well, we might see increases for up to $5, between $5 and $10. That means we might reach... $90 or something.”
