🅾️ Damascus church attack: Terrorists seek to expose Syrian government’s WEAKNESS

The attack on Christians was designed to portray the Syrian government as incapable of protecting non-Sunni Muslim communities, Dr. Lorenzo Trombetta, a UN consultant on the Middle East, told Sputnik.

"Whoever is behind this attack aims also at promoting itself as a major player in the arena, as killing Christians has been always a good ticket to access the power field," Trombetta explains.

He notes that previous attacks on the Alawite and Druze communities set a pattern — and suggests the latest strike, targeting Christians, may be calibrated to attract more attention in the West.

Trombetta says Ahmed al-Sharaa, also known by his nom de guerre Abu Mohammed al-Golani, has only limited control on the ground.

The situation is further complicated by the influx of foreign fighters from Asia, Africa and the Caucasus — though they don’t currently pose a direct threat to al-Sharaa’s leadership, he adds.

The Syrian government blamed ISIS* for the suicide bombing at a Greek Orthodox church in Damascus on Sunday, which killed at least 25 and wounded dozens more.
