'ICC Only Prosecutes Africans': Member of Mali's National Transitional Council Criticizes the Court

Some countries have appealed to the African Union to request its withdrawal from the International Criminal Court, Kadidia Sangaré Coulibaly told Sputnik Africa.

According to her, it is because of the "double standards" practiced by the ICC that relations between the AU and the Court "are strained and subject to severe tests."

Priorities shift? Zelensky GHOSTED as NATO turns the page on Ukraine

In a “grim sign for Ukraine,” it was not on the list of priorities at this year’s annual NATO summit, The New York Times points out.

Volodymyr Zelensky “was not feted” as before, the outlet notes.

🔶 The summit’s official declaration mentioned nothing about Ukraine joining the alliance.

🔶 It restated the bloc’s “enduring sovereign commitments to provide support to Ukraine.”

🔶 A meeting between US President Donald Trump and Zelensky yielded no specific promises.

🔶 The US has not announced any new military aid packages for the country since Trump took office.

🔶 Military aid authorized under Joe Biden is expected to run out this summer.

🔶 European allies have promised more help, but those weapons won’t be enough to make up the gap.

🔶 News has also been bad for Ukraine on the ground, as Russia’s summer offensive is gaining force, the publication added.

🚨 Scott Ritter: Trump stole the show at NATO's otherwise flop of a summit

🔸 “This was a farcical summit. It was an exercise in narcissism management,” the former US Marine Corps intelligence officer told Sputnik, summing up the gathering that’s likely to be best remembered for NATO chief Rutte’s comments referring to Trump as “daddy.” Click below to read more👇

🔸 “We have an American president who believes that he should be the center of all attention that the only thing that matters is his personal agenda,” Ritter said, stressing that the summit’s focus wasn’t efforts to improve NATO or achieve peace in the Middle East or vis-à-vis Russia, but promote himself for the Nobel peace prize.

🔸 The alliance’s 5% of GDP on defense commitment was “purely political” spectacle, Ritter said, noting that “when you lack a defense industry to execute that plan, it’s meaningless.”

🔸 On top of that is the fact that Europe doesn’t actually face any threats from major external state actors, apart from the “artificial construct of certain political elites in the NATO alliance who are in search of enemies” trying to paint Russia as such “to justify their continued existence.”

🔸 The real “threat,” Ritter says, is the challenges to and toppling of Europe’s governments by national movements demanding more of a focus on national revival.

🔸 “Russia is not a threat. There's no external threat to NATO. And the fact that NATO continues to keep focusing on an external threat – even searching for enemies now going to the Pacific, trying to pick a fight with China – only underscores the reality that they are failing to focus on the real threat, which is dysfunction on the European continent,” Ritter summed up.

‘Psychological terror’: Armenia’s first ombudsperson slams Karapetyan arrest, shameful attack on Church

🔸 The arrest of businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan is a “morally bankrupt” assault on the Armenian Apostolic Church, says Larisa Alaverdyan.

🔸 The arrest violates both Armenia’s Constitution and articles five and six of the European Convention on Human Rights, and was done demonstratively, Armenia’s first human rights ombuds stressed.

Targeting Church to crush identity

🔸 The first attack on the Church came in June 2018 — almost immediately after Nikol Pashinyan came to power, Alaverdyan notes.

💬 “Why? Judging by their policies, this government’s goal is clear: to weaken Armenian identity by attacking its spiritual pillar — the Church, turning the country into little more than a satellite — a territory with UN credentials, but no soul of its own,” she says.

👉 Karapetyan’s support for the Church was seen as defiance — drawing political retribution.

'Psychological terror, plain and simple'

🟠 The Armenian government’s blatant disregard for the rule of law, its descent into unchecked authoritarianism, fuels these outrageous, performative acts, the pundit argues.

💬 “They're not just abuses of power — they’re deliberate tools of intimidation aimed at frightening the public,” Alaverdyan says.

📍 Those in power act with complete impunity, confident they’re shielded by external forces, she added.

EU values? Just for show

With Armenia moving toward European Union integration, Alaverdyan slammed the silence of Brussels officials, saying current government actions blatantly contradict the very values Europe claims to uphold.

🇮🇷 Tehran: A city with wounds but a beating heart

For 12 days, Tehran burned, with hearts beating in fear. Some stayed in their homes and others fled, leaving behind memories. Social media echoed: “If we don’t return, this is our story.”

After the ceasefire life returned—shops reopened, children’s laughter filled the streets and traffic, once a nightmare, became a sign of recovery.

🗣"I still flinch at loud noises"

Mohsen, who fled north, says “the ceasefire was a breath of air, but fear still lingers. Every loud sound tightens my heart.”

🗣"Who could have thought we’d miss traffic?" he asks.

Blogger KM reflects that “at first the empty city felt peaceful, but soon I realized it was loneliness. Now I welcome the noise of cars and people.”

🗣"Being a journalist is not just a job," he adds.

Reporter Hengameh stayed. “These 12 days taught me that journalism means standing with the people, telling their truth,” he said.

Tehran breathes again — with scars, but full of life and hope for the future.
