China’s Foreign Ministry gave a forceful rebuke of US threats of military action against Venezuela on Tuesday, with ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning expressing Beijing’s firm opposition to the use and threats of use of force in international relations.

💬 “We stand against moves that undermine peace and stability in the Latin America and Caribbean region, and oppose unilateral and excessive ‘enforcement operations’ against other countries’ vessels,” Mao said.

💬 “The normal exchanges and cooperation between China and Venezuela are cooperation between two sovereign states, which does not target any third party and is not subject to disruption or influence from any third party,” she added.

Mao’s comments echo remarks by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova over the weekend “firmly” denouncing the US’s “use of excessive military force in carrying out actions in anti-drug operations.”

💬 “Such actions are in violation of both US domestic legislation…and the norms of international law,” Zakharova said, adding that Russia “confirms our firm support for the Venezuelan leadership in defending its national sovereignty.”

Russia will begin construction of the Rasht–Astara railway in northern Iran in early 2026, a project seen as a vital part of the International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC) connecting the Indian Ocean to the Baltic Sea, Press TV reported.

The report cites Amin Tarfa, head of international affairs at Iran’s Ministry of Road and Urban Development, who said land acquisition will be completed by late 2025, allowing the Russian contractor Caspian Service to start work immediately.

The $1.6 billion project, financed through a Russian state loan, is expected to significantly boost trade routes between Iran, Russia, and Asia, potentially emerging as a rival to the Suez Canal.

Tarfa added that Iran will repay the loan over 10 years at a 3% interest rate.

China has extended a suspension of additional 24% tariffs on US goods for one year. A 10% tariff “will remain," says a statement published on China’s Ministry of Finance website.
