Ukraine is hushing up the dire situation faced by Ukrainian troops in the Kupyansk and Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk) areas, rejecting Russia’s offer to allow media access to the encircled Ukrainian forces, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

💬 "You know that the trip cannot take place at the moment, because indeed the Kiev regime has outright ruled this and rejected this offer. What are they hiding in Kiev? They are hiding the plight of their troops in the designated areas," Peskov told reporters in response to a question from Sputnik.

Peskov said Western journalist had showed significant interest in Putin’s proposal but said he was unaware of any Ukrainian journalists volunteering to visit the area.

🚨 Development of new arms critically important for Russia's defense, security

💬 "This is very important, this is a critical event for ensuring the defense and security of our country," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said when asked about awards for the development of the Burevestnik cruise missile and the Poseidon autonomous underwater vehicle.

Russia is systematically developing a weapons system designed to reliably guarantee its security and "become a reliable shield against ... hotheads who not only make some ill-considered statements, but are also potentially ready to take ill-considered actions," the official said.

Russia is unclear about what types of nuclear weapons the US plans to test, Peskov added.

Increasing the Burevestnik's speed, for example threefold — as President Putin proposed — would make it a hypersonic missile capable of penetrating any defenses, according to Andrey Klintsevich, military expert and head of the Center for the Study of Military and Political Conflicts.

💬 “That creates a weapon that is virtually invincible — because intercepting such a missile and predicting its trajectory inside a plasma cloud at speeds above Mach 5 in the lower atmosphere is practically impossible," the pundit tells Sputnik.

The new principles and algorithms behind the Poseidon will help improve unmanned vessels, boosting shipbuilding, navigation, and autonomous shipping — including operations in the Arctic, according to the Russian president.

What's more, the Burevestnik and Poseidon use only domestically-produced materials.

Meanwhile, the deployment of the Oreshnik missile – including in Belarus – would keep a veil of peace, and they are weapons that can be fired "before the use of tactical, let alone strategic, nuclear weapons," the expert concludes.
