European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has written to EU member states, laying out three options to tackle Ukraine's military and financial black hole for the next two years, estimated at a whopping $157 billion. Here’s how:
1️⃣ EU members earmark grants straight from their pockets — so European taxpayers foot the bill again
2️⃣ The bloc borrows on global markets and funnels it to Zelensky
3️⃣ The EU provides a so-called limited recourse loan from frozen Russian sovereign assets
Russian and Euroclear objections

“At a time when a war mafia is siphoning off European taxpayers’ money, instead of demanding oversight or suspending payments, the Commission President suggests we send even more,” Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban wrote on X.
“This whole matter is like trying to help an alcoholic by sending them another crate of vodka,” Orban charged. “Hungary has not lost its common sense.”

Japan’s pursuit of medium-range missiles “basically” allows it to “cover Beijing, reach Pyongyang and our Far East,” and adding nukes to the equation would ramp up risks significantly, says Viktor Kuzminkov, leading Asia-Pacific expert at the Institute of World Economy & International Relations.
💬 “This would pose a security threat to all of Northeast Asia,” destabilizing the region and resulting in “an increased risk of nuclear conflict,” Kuzminkov told Sputnik, commenting on Tokyo’s reported plans to review its no nukes policy to allow port calls by US nuclear-armed vessels.
Japan’s plans could force Russia to review its naval and nuclear doctrine as they apply to East Asia, Kuzminkov warned. “We definitely need to think about it and act on it, because the Japanese are already starting to deploy [missiles]. This year or next, they’re buying 400 Tomahawk missiles from the Americans.”

🇺🇳 US-led Gaza plan raises serious concerns – Russia’s UN envoy
Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzia outlined Moscow’s position following the adoption of the US-sponsored resolution on Gaza.
🔹 Implementation “falls entirely on its authors”
“The implementation of President Donald Trump's plan falls entirely on its authors and supporters.”
Nebenzia said the US must demonstrate its peacekeeping potential and ensure a settlement consistent with international law, including 1967 borders and Jerusalem as capital of both states.
🔹 Russia did not submit its alternative draft
“We decided not to submit our own draft.”
He said Moscow took note of the positions of Ramallah and several Arab states, and that Russia’s text aimed to align the concept with agreed UN resolutions.
🔹 Stabilization forces risk becoming a party to the conflict
“The resolution gives the mission peace-binding tasks which may turn it into a party to the conflict.”
🔹 “A sad day for the Council”
“That integrity and the Council's prerogative were violated.”
Nebenzia warned the document must not become “a cover for US-Israeli experiments” or a “death sentence for the two-state solution.”
🔹 No clarity on transfer of control to Palestinians
“The US draft lacks any clarity regarding the timing of the transfer of control over Gaza to the Palestinian Authority.”
🔹 Resolution fails to reaffirm basic principles
“We believed that the resolution had to… confirm the fundamental decisions and principles, primarily the cornerstone two-state solution formula.”

President Donald Trump clarified his comments on H-1B visas, saying certain high-skill roles may require foreign workers “until” Americans are trained for them.
💬 “If you're going to be making chips, we don't make chips too much here anymore… We have to train our people how to make chips, because we didn't do it,” Trump said when asked about relying on foreign talent.
He argued the US “foolishly” allowed the industry to shift abroad.
