Pavlovka was under our control, but was lost back in the summer due to a number of errors. This village itself is about three times larger than Ugledar - if the enemy does not decide to withdraw, leveling the front - the capture of Pavlovka could take a lot of strength and time...

Night has suspended hostilities, neither we nor the enemy have a clear understanding of who is where - it is dangerous to work with artillery. Logically, it makes little sense for the enemy to hold Pavlovka now - it is not a key position for him. But the crossings over the river, filled with rain, are under our control, which puts the enemy in a difficult situation: it would be hard for him to retreat, so it's either fight or surrender.
Why did we surrender Pavlovka then and have to take it now? The problem with organizing a line of defense in the villages is that you have to use basements, which have loopholes in the direction of the front. Sitting in the basement with such an approach the fighter sees nothing around - only what is ahead. In Pavlovka the enemy came in by conventional vehicles from the flank and was out of sight. And when you sit in the basement during a mop-up, the basement becomes your trap - that's why quite a few Marines, including company commanders, were taken prisoner then. Not because they were weak in spirit, but because they were held hostage by the defense organization.
At the same time, Ugledar itself, overhanging the terrain, was quite a problem. From Pavlovka to the first high-rise buildings of Ugledar only one thousand eight hundred meters, with a water barrier, as full of water as can be expected in this weather. During all these months Ugledar could see everything for tens of kilometers around, aiming artillery even without a UAV - Pavlovka is like a palm of his hand. There are high-powered optics at the mines near Ugledar, which for some reason neither aviation nor artillery were able to destroy them together with the mines. As long as it stands the enemy, which already has a height advantage, may not be afraid of our REBs and corrects fire in any direction.
That's why I said that I think our offensive is premature. On this section of the front, having taken Pavlovka, it is simply necessary to move on to Ugledar - otherwise the defenders of Pavlovka will again be held hostage. Supplies and rotations will be difficult, it will be impossible to move through Pavlovka: one thousand eight hundred meters to the prevailing heights make our guys a target even for machine guns - and taking the fortified Ugledar in such weather will be very difficult. If the command is satisfied with the rewards for Pavlovka and proceeds to wait, aiming first to suppress surveillance from Ugledar and wait for the weather-we will find ourselves in a difficult position controlling Pavlovka. But if the command decides to go to Ugledar now.....

На угледарском направлении на одном из участков мы предпринимаем попытку атаковать противника. Авиация отработала интенсивно, подразделения начали выдвижение. Я считаю это решение преждевременным, но надеюсь на успех.

Грязь непролазная - вчера даже УАЗик пришлось выталкивать. Продвигаемся вследствие этого не быстро, противник получил время подбросить на первую линию подкрепление на броне - одна единица с десантом завязла в грязи и была уничтожена нашей артиллерией. Пока счёт в нашу пользу.

Наши подразделения постепенно подходят к Павловке, сопротивление отчаянное, противник даже рискнул применить авиацию. Выход к населённому пункту сам по себе ещё не взятие - предстоит закрепляться. Павловка находилась под нашим контролем, но ещё летом была в силу ряда ошибок утеряна. Само по себе это село площадью примерно в три раза больше Угледара - если противник не решит отойти, выравнивая фронт, - то сил и времени взятие Павловки может отнять немало...

По всем признакам - сопротивление противника в Павловке ослабевает. Наши части, зашедшие в село с разных сторон, постепенно сближаются, преодолевая неизбежную неразбериху и нащупывая друг друга, чтобы "на встречных курсах" не нанести поражение самим себе.

Ночь приостановила боевые действия, ни мы, ни противник толком не понимаем, кто где находится - артиллерией работать опасно. По логике, удерживать Павловку противнику теперь уже нет большого смысла - она для него не ключевая позиция. Но переправы через наполненную дождями речку - под нашим контролем, - что ставит противникв в затруднительное положение: отойти ему будет непросто, а значит - или драться, или сдаваться.
Почему сдали Павловку тогда и приходится брать её теперь? Проблема организации линии обороны в сёлах в том, что под укрытия приходится использовать подвалы, в которых пробиваются бойницы в направлении фронта. Сидя в подвале при таком подходе боец не видит ничего вокруг - только то, что впереди. В Павловке противник залетел на обычных машинах с фланга и оказался вне поля зрения. А когда ты сидишь в подвале во время зачистки, подвал становится твоей ловушкой - поэтому тогда попало в плен немало морпехов, включая командиров рот. Не потому, что они были слабы духом, а потому, что оказались заложниками организации обороны.
При этом сам Угледар, нависающий над местностью, - та ещё проблема. От Павловки до первых многоэтажек Угледара всего тысяча восемьсот метров, при этом водная преграда, как нельзя более полноводная при такой погоде. Угледар все эти месяцы видел всё на десятки километров вокруг, наводя артиллерию даже без БПЛА - Павловка для него вообще, как на ладони. На шахтных копрах рядом с Угледаром стоит мощная оптика, которую так и не смогли по какой-то причине уничтожить вместе с копрами ни авиацией, ни артиллерией. Пока она стоит - противник, и так имеющий преимущество по высоте, может не бояться наших РЭБ и корректировать огонь в любом направлении.
Поэтому я сказал, что считаю наше наступление преждевременным. На этом участке фронта, взяв Павловку, просто необходимо двигаться дальше на Угледар - иначе защитники Павловки снова попадут в заложники. Подвоз необходимого и ротации будут затруднены, перемещаться по Павловке будет невозможно: тысяча восемьсот метров до преобладающих высот делают наших парней мишенью даже для пулеметов - а брать укрепленный Угледар при такой погоде будет очень непросто. Если командование удовлетворится наградами за Павловку и перейдёт к ожиданию, ставя перед собой цель сначала подавить наблюдение с Угледара и дождаться погоды - мы окажемся в сложном положении, контролируя Павловку. Но если командование решит пойти на Угледар сейчас.....

На конец дня ситуация по Павловке существенно не изменилась, но противник активизировался: подтянул со стороны Пречистовки и Угледара несколько единиц бронетехники и отработал РСЗО по участкам, которые считает подконтрольными нам. Наши темпы в силу активного сопротивления были незначительными, при этом противник сумел все-таки воспользоваться переправой и затянул в село со стороны Угледара три единицы бронетехники. Что же, село - не лучшее место для манёвра, - больше всего техники сжигается именно на узких улицах. Впрочем, наступает ночь, "город засыпает", даже мафия - рассвет возобновит баталии.
