→ Operators must inform customers in advance by SMS about the free internet offer

→ The initiative aims to promote digital freedom and reflect public expectations

→ Some mobile companies raised concerns about taxes and extra costs for delivering the free data

→ The move comes a year after a nationwide internet blackout during protests on July 18, 2024

Nepal Authorities Block Telegram Due to Rise in Fraud

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) ordered the immediate blocking of the Telegram messenger within the country.

What is happening:
• An official notification of the block was immediately sent to all telecom operators.
• The block took effect immediately by order of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Communications, and the Ministry of Home Affairs of Nepal.
• The decision was made after consultations with the police and the country's financial institutions.

Official reasons:
• A sharp increase in online fraud cases using Telegram.
• Detected cases of money laundering through the messenger.
• Hundreds of incidents recorded by the police: from fake job offers to cryptocurrency and financial scams.

Plane crash into Milestone School: State mourning announced for 1 day

one-day state mourning has been declared for Tuesday, following the casualties due to the crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft on the campus of Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka.

On this day, the national flag will be flown at half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous institutions, and educational institutions across the country.

The flag will also be flown at half-mast on all government and private buildings, as well as at Bangladeshi missions abroad.

Special prayers will be held at all places of worship across the country for the injured and deceased.
