Beware! Backdoor found in XZ utilities used by many Linux distros (CVE-2024-3094)
A vulnerability (CVE-2024-3094) in XZ Utils, the XZ format compression utilities included in most Linux distributions, may “enable a malicious actor to break sshd authentication and gain unauthorized access to the entire system remotely,” Red Hat warns.
The cause of the vulnerability is actually malicious code present in versions 5.6.0 (released in late February) and 5.6.1 (released on March 9) of the xz libraries, which was accidentally found by Andres Freund, a PostgreSQL developer and software engineer at Microsoft.

Have you ever built something you're now afraid of? Take a comfort, because even Microsoft, the giant company, was afraid of building Microsoft Bob. Microsoft Bob was a software product released by Microsoft in March 1995. It was designed as a user-friendly interface for Windows operating systems, intended to make computing more accessible, particularly for beginners or those unfamiliar with computers. Despite its innovative approach, Microsoft Bob was not well-received by users or critics.
Many found it to be overly simplistic and cartoonish, and it was criticized for being too intrusive and distracting. As a result, Microsoft Bob was discontinued less than a year after its release, and it is often remembered as one of Microsoft's most notable failures. But I don't believe the product is as bad as it is often told. I think those who develop digital products for kids can draw inspiration from this old-day UX creativity and recreate it for kids and illiterates to make them familiar with digital equipment.
