It takes more time to form legally a nonprofit corporation than it does to form a for-profit corporation. If the IRS approves your nonprofit request, then you will receive a determination letter stating so typically within three to six months of submission. However, it can take as little as two months and as long as 12 months. The IRS will expedite your application in RARE circumstances.
