🔹 Belarus 🇧🇾 plans to increase food exports 📈 up to $7.8 billion by the end of the year. “The Russian Federation remains our main market: it accounts for about 70% of our food exports. We are planning to increase this percentage by the end of the year since the price factor is very good. The CIS countries account for about 10% of the Belarusian total food 🌾 exports,”. There has been a significant growth in the exports to other countries – up almost 67%.

🔹 Belarus refuses to go along with the 'climate change' agenda and face western sanctions on their industries (Russia 🇷🇺 and Belarus 🇧🇾 are the world's top #2 &#3 potash fertilizer producers), yet have growing food production. The Russian/Belarussian 🥛diary market is highly integrated and there are talks of making it more "free-market" for both raw and end-products.

🔹Nuclear energy 🏭 is becoming more popular this year because other energy sources are getting more expensive. Fossil fuels 🛢 are going up in price, and renewable energy isn’t producing enough electricity 🔋to make up the difference.

🔹China 🇨🇳 has built the world's first waterless reactor, which generates electricity 🔌 in the desert and is extremely safe. This kind of water-free nuclear reactor is called molten salt reactor (usually abbreviated as MSR). Unlike conventional nuclear power plants driven by solid fuel rods, its coolant and fuel are molten salt mixed.

🔹The US 🇺🇸 has the largest fleet of nuclear power plants in the world (93 nuclear reactors with an installed capacity of 95 GW, which generate 20% of US electricity). 💡95% of uranium for commercial needs is imported to the States.

India - 🇮🇳 Within Rajasthan’s Sikar district, the government is considering establishing up an exploratory mining centre where over 14,000 tonnes of uranium ore deposits have been discovered.

🔹Australian 🇦🇺 consumer price inflation sped to a 21-year 📈 high last quarter and is likely to accelerate even further as food and energy costs explode, stoking speculation interest rates will need to more than double to bring the outbreak under control. The annual CPI picked up to 6.1% from 5.1%, the highest since 2001 and more than twice the pace of wage growth.

🔹Australian PM has urged Beijing 🇨🇳 to lift import restrictions on coal and other imports from Australia. The import restrictions on Australian coal, ⛏ barley 🌾 and wine 🍷 into China have been in place since 2020.

🔹Australia is the world’s largest exporter of coal 🚢 as measured by energy and the second largest exporter as measured by tonnes. Including gas, Australia is about the world’s third largest exporter of thermal energy behind Russia 🇷🇺 and Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 and ahead of Indonesia 🇮🇩.

🔹London's 🇬🇧 High Court has rejected President Nicolas Maduro's latest efforts to gain control of more than $1 billion of 🇻🇪 Venezuela's gold reserves stored in the Bank of England's underground vaults in London. It marked the latest victory for Guaido, who has won a series of legal clashes over the bullion after the British gov't recognised him as Venezuela's president.

🔹Iran 🇮🇷 is increasing supplies of a key 🛢 crude grade that Venezuela is using to boost its aging refineries' 🏭 productivity and free domestic oil for exports. Both, in the past have swapped Venezuelan 🇻🇪 heavy oil & other commodities for Iranian gasoline, condensate, refinery parts & technical support.

🔹Venezuela 🇻🇪 has agreed to provide Iran with one million hectares of agricultural land 🚜for food 🌾 growing projects. the biggest advantage of overseas cultivation for Iran 🇮🇷 is the preservation of its valuable water 💧resources. 🔹Germany's 🇩🇪 BASF, the world's largest chemical company, is cutting ammonia (NH3) production further due to soaring natural gas 🔥prices. Germany's biggest NH3 maker SKW Piesteritz and number four Ineos also said they could not rule out production cuts.

🔹NH3 plays a key role in the manufacturing 🏭 of fertiliser, engineering plastics and diesel exhaust fluid. Its production also yields high-purity carbon dioxide (CO2) as a byproduct, which is needed by the meat and fizzy drinks industries.

🔹US 🇺🇸 farmers 🚜 face high input fertilizer costs and face lower profit margins unless harvests fetch higher prices. Farmers without large capital available may have to scale down. Western sanctions on Russia 🇷🇺 and Belarus 🇧🇾 prevent these 2 major fertilizer exporting countries from easing prices on world markets. The sanctions also cut Russia's natural gas export as feedstock to NH3 producers.

🔹 Russian 🇷🇺 gas giant Gazprom says that it has stopped deliveries to Latvia due to “violations of the terms of gas extraction.” Latvia's 🇱🇹 contractual breach is likely connected with Moscow's demand of payments in rubles. Latvia's gas company chairman, is reported to admit buying Russian natural gas 🔥 even after refusing to pay in rubles.

🔹The Latvian natural gas system is interconnected with transmission networks located in Lithuania, Estonia and Russia. Latvia's Inčukalns Underground Gas Storage (UGS) facility (shown in photo) was 49.04% full a week ago.

🔹The NordStream1 pipeline to Germany 🇩🇪 (photo) is flowing at 20% capacity due to Gazprom being restricted to service their gas turbines under normal timelines due to western sanctions. Denmark was the most recent of 5 countries failing to pay for gas in rubles.

🔹US 🇺🇸 House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office announced early Sunday morning that she plans to visit at least four Asian ✈️ countries during her trip to the region, but a stop in Taiwan was notably left out. Pelosi is leading a Congressional delegation to the Indo-Pacific region that includes stops in Singapore 🇸🇬, Malaysia 🇲🇾 , South Korea 🇰🇷 and Japan 🇯🇵.

🔹This comes after China 🇨🇳 made resolute couter-measures to any visit by Pelosi's delegation to Taiwan. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian warned Nancy Pelosi's potential visit to Taiwan 🇹🇼 would ruin the atmosphere for holding more high level dialogues between China and the United States.

🔹 USA 🇺🇸- Record container ship traffic jam 🚢 as backlog continues to build, up 66% from early June. North American port congestion has just re-entered record territory. The offshore traffic jam is once again as bad as it’s ever been. As of Thursday morning, there were 153, 📈 the majority off East and Gulf Coast ports. Potential strikes and labour constraints are a growing issue at US ports.

🔹 Did you know that 80% of the global goods trade is transported over sea? 🚢 Average capacity is being pulled upwards by the arrival of mega-ships, ⚓️ which are ships that have a capacity of over 18,000 TEUs. Their massive size creates problems for ports that weren’t designed to handle such a high volume of traffic.🚦

🔹Water levels 💧on the Rhine in Germany 🇩🇪 have fallen again with vessels 🚢 often sailing only half full and prices for cargo transport rising. Water levels at the chokepoint of Kaub near Koblenz where the river is especially shallow have fallen again and some vessels there can only sail 30% full. The Rhine is an important shipping route ⛴ for commodities including grains, 🌾 chemicals, minerals, coal ⛏ and oil products, 🛢 including heating oil.

🔹German 🇩🇪 companies faced supply bottlenecks and production problems in 2018 after a drought ☀️ and heatwave led to unusually low water levels on the Rhine. Shippers 🚢 are focused on the critical 15.7 inches (40 centimeters) mark (photo), a level if breached, prevents barges from sailing past the point and would result in a similar shutdown of the waterway as in 2018.

🔹A new law in Israel 🇮🇱 will ban payments of large sums of money in cash 💵 and bank checks. The goal of the reform, according to a statement issued by Israel’s Tax Authority, is to ‘fight organized crime, money laundering and tax non-compliance’. 🤔 Under the new law, any payment to a business above 6,000 NIS ($1,700) must be made using alternative methods, such as a digital transfer or a debit card 💳. Trading between private citizens who are not listed as business owners will be limited to 15,000 NIS ($4,360) in cash. This is another step in Israel’s fight against the use of cash 💷.

🔹At least four people have died during protests over the cost of electricity 🔋in the South African 🇿🇦 township Tembisa, northeast of the financial hub, Johannesburg. Authorities said two people were killed in alleged 🚓 police shootings after the protests broke out.

🔹Tembisa residents were angered 🔥 after community members, who wanted to meet with Ekurhuleni mayor Tania Campbell last Friday, 29 July, to address their grievances, had to contend with instead meeting members of the mayoral committee (MMCs) on her behalf.

🔹“Public representatives should not fear the constituencies they lead, and must respond to the demand of the people. The EFF, therefore, calls on the Mayor to meet with the people of Tembisa to ensure that violence ⚔️ that is being inflicted on our people comes to an end,”.

🔹 Gazprom 🇷🇺 issued a statement today saying western sanctions (inc. legal documents) prevented it from taking the long awaited gas turbine back.

🔹 German 🇩🇪 Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited a Siemens Energy site in north-western Germany, where the firm is keeping a turbine ⚙️ and now says nothing was standing in the way of its return to Russia 🇷🇺.

💠 Western sanctions, Canadian 🇨🇦 and German authorities have been stalling the return of the 1st turbine for almost 2 months.

💠 Gazprom 🇷🇺 stopped the operation of a second Siemens turbine for servicing. As a result, supply through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline 🔥 decreased to 20% of the pipeline's capacity.

🔹Ireland 🇮🇪has committed to a 25% cut in greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture by 2030 after a bitter political battle between farmers, 🚜 business groups and environmentalists. The coalition government on announced binding sectoral targets to slash overall carbon emissions by 51% by 2030. The agriculture cuts will be incentivised and voluntary, rather than mandated, but cattle 🐂 farmers will face pressure to cull cattle.

🔹Even if all sectors reach their targets, Ireland 🇮🇪 will be shy of the 51% reduction that is mandated by law. Twenty-six million tonnes of carbon reductions are “unallocated” pending further studies of land use.

🔹However, the Irish 🇮🇪 Farmers' 👨‍🌾 Association called the move a "potentially devastating blow for Irish farming and the rural economy". Agriculture emissions rose 3% in 2021 which the report puts down to increased use of fertiliser nitrogen and increased numbers of dairy cows, 🐄 pigs, and other livestock.

🔹China 🇨🇳 suspended some fish and fruit imports from Taiwan, citing excessive pesticide residue detected on products since last year. Exports of natural sand, used in construction, were also banned. China is Taiwan’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade rising 26% on year to $328.3 billion last year.

🔹Beijing also announced four days of military exercises with artillery fire in waters around Taiwan 🇹🇼. That might delay or disrupt shipping 🚢 to and from the island, one of the biggest global traders.
