Russian media presence on social media looks like it will be limited to VK and Telegram for now.
But considering Instagram is owned by Facebook I can’t see it lasting very much longer
Russian state media pages still posting on Twitter despite the government banning it.
It’s about competing narratives in an information environment. Ban Facebook and Twitter because there is a plethora of narratives going against their own on there. Move everyone to VK, which is state owned, and you let your audience only see things allowed on the platform.
Telegram is still an option and is very popular in the country, so I wonder if they will keep it up
