Large groups of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) personnel are heading into flood-affected regions of Pakistan’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, carrying relief materials for families displaced by this week’s severe flooding.

The Lashkar’s relief effort, Indian intelligence officials told ThePrint, is the largest made by the organisation since the 2005 Kashmir earthquake, which saw it rise as a significant political force in the region.

The fund-collection efforts and organisational work is taking place under the banner of the Markazi Milli Muslim League, banned in both India and the United States as a front-organisation of the Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Since May 10, Pakistani and Bangladeshi officials have done 25 meetings at various locations most of which involved high-level delegations. 17 meetings in August, 3 in July, 3 in June and 1 in May. This should be seen in light with the recent comments by the Pakistan's military leadership, notably Lt Gen Chaudhry and Army Chief Asim Munir, that in a future conflict with India, strikes would commence from the east.

*Indian mountaineer dies during Mt Nun expedition in Ladakh*

Srinagar, Aug 30: A mountaineering expedition to Mount Nun in Ladakh turned tragic after heavy snowfall claimed the life of Kamal Mondal, an Assistant Vigilance Officer with the South Eastern Railway, the Army said yesterday.

Army's Leh based Fire and Fury Corps said on the night of August 26, an Indo-Austrian-Australian-Poland mountaineering expedition to Mt Nun (7135 mtr) encountered heavy snowfall, which resulted in the untimely demise of Kamal Mondal, Assistant Vigilance Officer, South Eastern Railway.

In a swift response, Army Aviation helicopters of the Fire and Fury Corps carried out a dignified evacuation operation to bring back the body of the fallen mountaineer.

"Fire and Fury Corps extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and Indian Railways," the Corps said on X.

Mt Nun, located in the Zanskar range of Ladakh, is one of the most challenging peaks in the Himalayas and has been the site of several international expeditions.
