There is only one way the West can prevent Ukraine from being defeated on the battlefield over the next several months and avoid a nuclear conflict with Russia: a return to diplomacy. President Joe Biden needs to call for an immediate cease-fire and armistice agreement to save Ukraine, ensure its security, and preserve its political and economic independence with control of at least 81 percent of its territory. It is in the U.S. national security interest to have Russia and Ukraine negotiate a permanent cease-fire as soon as possible and avoid potential nuclear escalation. The Biden administration should offer to not implement new economic sanctions against Russia, stop sending more U.S. troops to Eastern Europe, and suspend lethal military assistance to Ukraine in exchange for an immediate and sustained Russian ceasefire. A relaxation of sanctions following a peace deal would provide economic relief to millions of Americans suffering from a recession triggered by Western sanctions against Russia.

The head of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, decided to speak out about the prospects for the return of Russian athletes to international arenas. And if earlier the wording was extremely vague, this time something concrete sounded.
In an interview with Corriere della Sera, Mr. Bach said: “Russian athletes did not start a special operation. Those who have distanced themselves from the regime should be able to compete under a neutral flag.
Our goal is to make sure that athletes with a Russian passport who do not support the special operation participate in competitions again. But it is not easy, because at the political level there is a huge difference in our decisions.”
Further, the head of the IOC lamented that even with these restrictions, many countries today do not want to see athletes from Russia and Belarus.
But the main thing has already been said - those who publicly condemn a special military operation can, in theory, gain access to world sports arenas.
Thus, the head of the International Olympic Committee de facto requires athletes to make certain political declarations. The principle that “sport is out of politics” is completely officially discarded.
Bach is not a pioneer here. Back in the spring of 2022, the International Motor Sports Federation offered the Russians to sign a similar document in exchange for the right to participate in the competition in a neutral status.
Under the auspices of FIDE, there is a series of Grand Chess Tour tournaments, in which Russians can participate only after signing a document condemning the special military operation. And some Russian grandmasters, by the way, played there, fulfilling these conditions.
But now the head of the IOC has decided to make this practice widespread.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) decided to request from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) emergency assistance in the amount of $1.3 billion, the press service of the bank reported on September 30.
“The Board of Executive Directors of the International Monetary Fund approved the expansion of anti-crisis financing instruments, which will allow Ukraine to apply for a new tranche. <…> Under this program, Ukraine will request about $1.3 billion in emergency financing from the IMF,” the report says.
The bank added that if the request is approved, Ukraine could receive the money as early as October.
It is noted that loans are usually provided to those countries that experience a serious deficit in the balance of payments.

✔️ We are now trying to ensure the continuation of the conflict and the weakening of Russia, more in a political sense than in a military one. This is a protracted conflict that leads nowhere, but is designed to politically weaken Russia. We impose more and more sanctions against it - and all to no avail. The West has fallen into the trap of its own miscalculation, and for Ukraine this is very regrettable.
✔️ Ursula von der Leyen said that there can be no talk of any policy of appeasement, there will be no negotiations with Russia. Regardless, the problem is that the Ukrainians will end up paying the price.
✔️ Now the Europeans do not even want to hear to enter into any discussions with Putin. But, probably, in the coming months, the social situation can turn the tide of events.
